Description
Afaria enables enterprise IT organizations to centrally manage, secure and deploy iPhone and iPad devices for enterprise use. Please consult with your company’s IT organization before installing this App.
The Afaria App is a component of an overall Afaria implementation, and requires communications with a back-end Afaria server in order to operate properly. The Afaria client provides an App portal that will allow IT departments to distribute and update Apps over the air to their users. Users can select from a list of authorized Apps.
The Afaria server administrator also has the ability to gate access to corporate email servers based upon security policies or device stats. For example, if the user does not run the application every ‘n’ hours then the user will no longer have access to corporate email.
The Afaria App also reports on-device information to the user such as battery life, memory available, and OS.

Turn your iPhone into a Blackberry
von hayek
This is a totalitarian app that takes over your personal smartphone and turns it into a highly regulated corporate dumbphone.
1) It allows your IT department to decide what apps you should and should not have on your phone and implement their wishes directly without your approval. They also see your complete list of apps.
2) It tracks your location 24/7 and sends it to a corporate server. Even if you don't mind your firm watching your every move, this constant surveillance can dramatically shorten battery life (like they even admit in the description of the app).
3) It forces you (at least in my firm) to choose a complicated lock screen password with letters, numbers, and special characters -- so forget about checking email or news etc. during a 20-second elevator ride because you'll lose the convenience of just flipping out your phone to check something quickly.
Overall, I'd rather carry both my corporate Blackberry dumbphone and my personal iPhone (even though I hate carrying two devices) than cripple my iPhone with this portal that destroys the convenience and freedom I've enjoyed on my iPhone.

App does what it is intended to do

This is nor an end user app, so unless your company is setting this up on your company phone, don't bother with this app.
As for battery drain, a Mophie juicepak solves the problem, which is why my company included one with our iPhones.
Yea, the app feels big brotherish, but if the phone belongs to your company, they have a right to oversee it just as they do on their PC's on their network. Which is a darn good reason to keep private things OFF your company phone, including creating separate Apple or other accounts on your work phone. A PIA on some levels, but worth it if you value your privacy!!

For those of you saying it doesn't work, please read the description. The app is part of a software package that allows you to manage iOS devices. If you haven't purchased Afaria software, the app won't help you. However, the new enrollment policy is INCREDIBLE and makes IT's job much easier. Thank you Sybase!
