Further stability tweaks to make managing your listing and your travels as easy as possible.
App and tech support
I have been emailing tech support for over a month now, with no resolution. I go over the issues I'm having with the app (my itinerary not displayed in the app, but I can view it on PC), and after 2-3 delayed email exchanges I would then get no response, I then follow up again and a new customer service rep would email me back. I have had 4 diff reps contact me so far, all of them identifying a different issue, some conflicting with the other reps (for example, I see the last rep informed you this is the issue, we see no evidence of that).
One guy Justen was extremely rude; after I repeatedly confirmed that I am logged in using my email address, he responded "I guarantee you you have no account with that email address". Oh I guess I'm seeing things when I see my correct email address displayed after logging in, and thanks for the confrontation, you're right, you know better than me which email address I use. All other reps were able to see my account with my email address. One rep simply said the app does not perform in some areas, so use the PC. Well when I'm traveling it's difficult to constantly check for updates and messages on a PC, and there's a reason we downloaded the app- so we can manage things on the go.
I love the hosts and the experience, but significant improvement is needed for the app and customer service.
The app is VERY SLOW to process
While Airbnb itself is a great running website and business, their app is just ridiculously slow and hard to use for hosts
As a host of more than 17 listings, the app takes FOREVER to load messages. Whether I'm on wifi at home, the office, or on 4G LTE, I'm staring at loading symbols at least some 20 seconds before the app processes any request.
It's also very difficult to navigate certain things such as finding specific reservations. The app only shows upcoming ones. If I have a reservation 3 months into the future and the guest and I haven't talked in a few weeks, the only way for me to search for the reservation is scrolling down my inbox until I find my guest or if I look through our property's calendar. Now, that's fine and all, but that leads me to my first issue, which is the app runs too slow to process things so searching for reservations becomes a chore. Please work on boosting the speed for processing things in app and this review could garner 4-5 stars. But as is, it's just TOO SLOW.
Hosts treated like beggars
Airbnb should be a little bit of fun for Hosts. Hosts aren't on vacation; we work hard with a smile to give guests that extra little bit that wasn't even promised. But Airbnb puts Hosts in a no-win situation.
My guests give me endearing complements and raving reviews, yet the same guest will only give 4 stars – there's nothing I can do about it. These must be people who would never give an A grade, because nobody is perfect. These guests rave and tell me what a wonderful house I have, how nice I have been to them, and thank me for a great time. But… 4 stars.
When my average gets to 4.4 stars, Airbnb starts threatening me. They tell me that I am "at risk". and I must do MORE for my guests. They don't read the review. I'm at risk because a very happy guest takes 1 star off for no stated reason. I give Airbnb a 1 star for not reading the review and only relying on stars.
Airbnb needs to advocate for the hosts too. At the very least Airbnb should warn people that 4 stars is a FAIL. Airbnb isn't a community, it's just a JOB working for a computer who doesn't care- If I'm not going to enjoy being a Host, I won't be.
