Remember those faux wood grain GE flip clocks that sat on every bedside table just a couple of decades ago? The Alarm Dock Clock app transforms an iPhone into a nostalgic Flip-Clock. Works with iPhone’s existing alarm functionality. Suggested pairing with AREAWARE’s “Alarm Dock”.
What's New in Version 1.2.4
iPhone 5 and iOS 6 compatibility.
I finally got the wood alarm dock I've had on my wish list for awhile. I was pretty surprised to realize it's literally just a piece of wood and nothing else. The phone doesn't even fit properly on the "dock"- it's crooked and overhangs. Despite my distaste for the actual product the one star for the app is based only on the app itself. Just like the physical product it's completely unusable. The swipe motion somehow is meant to perform multiple tasks at once. I set a test alarm and it didn't go off at all except for a tiny dot that flashed on the screen from red to green. I have no idea how I originally even got to the settings menu because once I closed out of it I was never able to get back into it. I tried every swipe or tap combo motion but none brought the menu back. The menu itself locked to my phone upside down which is the least of the problems but just demonstrates the lack of attention to detail. I immediately deleted the app and although the wood block is pretty I'll probably return it on principle and from the misleading packaging. Worst app and product I've ever come across as a UX/UI designer.
Don't download or rely on this app to wake you up
I like the design I like the swipe to snooze feature. I like the alarm sounds that come with the app. The app has a great feature of an LED indicator - solid green when an alarm is armed, flashing red/green when an alarm is sounding. This is important since when this app fails (and it will fail question is when not if) the LED will be flashing but no sound will be heard from the alarm.
The issue is the snooze function. Somehow the snooze function will turn off the audible alarm noise. The LED will be flashing but no sound. This is odd, because the initial alarm will sound, but after snoozing this initial alarm, sometimes will silence the alarm instead, but not always. This is not the case of me accidentally turing off the alarm. This failure occurs on an iphone4 with full volume, no vibrate, dnd not enabled. So yes this is an unreliable alarm. It will wake you up most times but some other times it won't. Don't bet on this app.
Love the stand, clock... Not the alarm.
The stand is lovely. Better than just having the wire flopping around. And it improves the bass on the speaker. Resonance is good. Clock has nice night mode so it's a good bedside clock. I place my phone in a "do not disturb" mode... I would imagine alerts could wake up the light sleeper otherwise. Tested the alarm function and couldn't figure out how to snooze (or it's too easy to turn off the alarm). I'm going to do what someone else suggested and use the apple alarm.
I used to have a chumby and miss all the beautiful, funky clocks on that. The flip clock on that was great...
