Right Idea but needs a little more
Just downloaded the Alaska 511 app after driving the Parks Highway from the Banks to Anchorage tonight during the storms. The whole purpose of this app is to be a medium to put out information on driving routes. Whether ice, snow, rain, or avalanche, 511 reports it. It would get 5 stars if you develop it further for personalization for daily drivers and/or add text notifications to let people know (separate service that has to be set up on website.) I would like to see it cleaned up and maybe McKinley in the background. (Just a thought, background pictures for the section of the road you are looking at).
Doesn’t use full display width.
Iphone 8+, running 11.2.6. The map view leaves a 3/4” white band along the right edge.
All pins except for rwis stations are purple requiring you to tap the pin for actual information. I would suggest it update the pin color to the actual condition for that quick visual. Informational text boxes close if you tap the header 'map' text which is not so clear, also the info button inside the info text does a text to speech. Both these features should be more clear as to what they do. The list view of the different hi-way systems should have a current color condition indicator on the list instead of making you click into them. And last, but not least, feedback through the app is only allowed by voice. Though this may seem like the best way to eliminate spammers it is very inconvenient and will reduce the number and quality of what is reported. I would suggest drop downs for road conditions and free form text for other comments. In the end it can lead to automation of responses.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
