Alternote is a gorgeous OS X note-taking app that integrates with Evernote. Designed to be the most convenient and natural way to make notes, collect information, write down your ideas, feelings and memories.
Alternote is totally secure. There are no Alternote servers in the chain, just you, your Mac and Evernote backend.
Interface slightly dims as you start typing. Now just focus on writing.

Doesn't play well with others
I do love that this program will sync between different devices, and with recent updates, I’ve not had any problems with multiple copies since January of 2017. That said, I am frustrated that I can’t do something as simple as copy and paste from Evernote into Word, PowerPoint, or other professional programs. To paste notes into a manuscript today, I had to go via TextWrangler. I’ve been using this for alot of note-taking, and I’m getting a little worried that I won’t be able to export materials if I should wish to end my subscription. I appreciate the developers want this to be everything anyone might need -from making notes to publishing papers. The price would make you think it is, too. But it just isn’t!
I Wanted To Love It!
First and foremost, this is a gorgeous app and I used this full time for a while and never touched the Evernote app. I dove all in, and would have kept using it except for one massive issue(for me): For some reason, Alternote constantly made SO MANY duplicates of my notes. My Evernote notes and notebooks are super organized, and I couldn't spend any more time dealing with going through and deleting duplicates each time I used it. I want to love this, but I'm scared to open it now because I don't want to go delete a million duplicate notes. It's unfortunate, because I love everything else about this app. If that got fixed, this would be 5 stars for me and I would be preaching this app to everyone I know.
Lots of Upside, Some Annoyances
I evaluated and purchased Alternote after Evernote changed their policies to only allow 2 devices on a personal plan (I have 3 - a work computer, personal computer and an iPhone) - At first, everything worked great, but in the past 6 months i have noticed that I need to do a ton of maintenance to my notebooks to clean up duplicates and on more than one occasion i have lost notes all together due to syncing and rate limiting issues which appear to be with Evernote’s main servers.
All in all, I think its a good application for a single system, but the syncing leaves a LOT to be desired and I will again be looking for alternatives to Evernote (hello Microsoft OneNote!)
