ALWAYS READY, CONNECTED, AND FAST. Just ask.
The free Amazon Alexa App is a companion to your Alexa device for setup, remote control, and enhanced features. Alexa is always ready to play your favorite music, provide weather and news updates, answer questions, create lists, and much more. Alexa's brain is in the cloud, so she continually learns and adds more functionality over time. The more you use Alexa, the more she adapts to your speech patterns, vocabulary, and personal preferences.
HOW IT WORKS
Interactions with Alexa are automatically mirrored visually on your Amazon Alexa App, providing more information as you want it. The Amazon Alexa App lets you easily manage your alarms, music, shopping lists, and more -- wherever you are.
FAST WI-FI and EASY SET UP
Connect to your home's Wi-Fi network using the free Amazon Alexa App, with its simple guided setup. Now you can stream all of your music, listen to radio stations, and have access to news and information, all by voice -- or with the Amazon Alexa App's intuitive interface.
What's New in Version 1.16.39
* Bug fixes and performance enhancements
App needs some tweaks
I installed the app on my iPad, and I appreciate most of the features, but one bug is that if I go check out an album in Prime (following the link in the app) the Alexa app tells me that it's offline when I return to it. Sometimes it tells me it's offline after waking my iPad after it hibernates...and the app is not available on the lock screen, even though the settings claim that it is. Another thing that would be nice is the ability to search for a station or playlist, or even just a slider button on the side so you don't have to swipe infinite times to find something at the bottom of the list, or accidentally start something when you simply meant to scroll. The books also need a better method of organization--let us organize them alphabetically by author and title, and give us a good method of finding one by searching and/or selecting a letter. I have over 2,000 Kindle books, and even if only a fraction of those are able to be read by my Echo, it's too many to scroll through (and when choosing "show more", it shouldn't return me to the top of the list.) Those shortcomings don't let me rate this more than three stars.
Broken beyond use
When I first set up an echo, the app worked alright, but felt lacking in functionality. You had the options to augment things, but they had to have already been set through Alexa. Why not make it possible to do it either way? Not everyone will be able to use Alexa at all hours, and without going through the long voice training or even just having a sick day throws off the results.
After setting up a second echo, the app stopped working entirely. In landscape, it comes up with the settings list on the left, and a white void on the right. In portrait, if it loads at all after a long, LONG pause, it locks up after two taps and has to be closed and reopened, only to either lock up again if it even loads at all.
If you need to set things through Alexa, but then get directed by Alexa to go to the broken app to do anything, what more is the echo other than an overpriced, broken, half-finished gimmick?
Confused by 1-2 star rating
I'm confused by the 1-2 star rating. I've used 1-2 star apps before and this app does not qualify for the level of frustration I received from those other experiences. This app does what it is supposed to do and I appreciate that every interaction I have with Alexa is there to review and rate. The only change I would make is to have the interactions moved from the home page and have the menu bar actually be open as the home page. That aside, the app is easy to use and walks you through a very simple setup.
