Customer Reviews

Easy and straightforward, user-friendly GUI

I'm not sure about why there are so many bad reviews here. Looks like most of them are connection problems. I haven't experienced any problems like that... yet. I hope everything continues smoothly for me. I will say that I think the app is very easy to follow, and is very straightforward. It is organized and visually easy on the eyes. The menu categories are logically organized, and connecting my associated music, news, etc. apps was easy. The Alexa device is great. Using my voice, I can hear the news, hear the weather, hear what movies are playing, set multiple timers while I'm cooking, add things to my shopping list and my todo list, play games, hear recipes, ask detailed or trivial questions about people, places, and things, set reminders and alarms, play music, and much more. If you want Alexa specialized in a particular area, you can enable skill sets that allow Alexa to become smart. This is great for bartender recipes, cooking recipes, Games, encyclopedias, specialty knowledge, etc. I think you get the picture. The app shows you a searchable list of available skills for Alexa and allows you to enable a skill, or you can just voice instruct Alexa to enable a particular skill. The app works excellently with the Alexa device. But I am concerned about why others are having problems. I have an iPhone 6 and a Netgear WNDR3700v2 Router.

Works great for me.

I have a few things I have to say for all those out there having a hard time with this app. First. I am using iPhone 6 Plus.
I use Comcast for my ISP and was using there modem and wifi units. And they were the biggest pieces of crap. I was always off line. Even when it said I was on line. Window laptops always hanging and never seeing my printers. Even 2 feet away. (Not a fan of windows.) Printers always off line. Game stations always getting bumped off. Then I Went and bought some over priced single unit that everyone said would take care of the problem. More junk. Then I called my ISP and asked them to come to the house and fix it. I demanded new cable lines running into my house. They have been out there for 20 yrs or more. They came and said every thing was fine. More BULL. So then I saw the Apples "Time Capsule" so I purchased that and a brand new modem. (Modem only) not with wifi. Called my ISP, hooked up the new "modem". Then plugged in the Times Capsule. And WOW. What a HUGE difference. All my wifi devices. DirectV boxes, phones, printers (2) and game consoles are now working perfectly. My wifi also reaches out to my barn 60' away. It's cost me a ton of money. But worth it. Caz now everything works. And works great. It's just a thought. And I hope it helps anyone else with similar problems. Caz I was ready to rip Comcast out and ... bla bla bla.

App needs some tweaks

I installed the app on my iPad, and I appreciate most of the features, but one bug is that if I go check out an album in Prime (following the link in the app) the Alexa app tells me that it's offline when I return to it. Sometimes it tells me it's offline after waking my iPad after it hibernates...and the app is not available on the lock screen, even though the settings claim that it is. Another thing that would be nice is the ability to search for a station or playlist, or even just a slider button on the side so you don't have to swipe infinite times to find something at the bottom of the list, or accidentally start something when you simply meant to scroll. The books also need a better method of organization--let us organize them alphabetically by author and title, and give us a good method of finding one by searching and/or selecting a letter. I have over 2,000 Kindle books, and even if only a fraction of those are able to be read by my Echo, it's too many to scroll through (and when choosing "show more", it shouldn't return me to the top of the list.) Those shortcomings don't let me rate this more than three stars.
