Philips Hue Movie Sync - this is a real time average colour synchronisation of your selected screen and your Philips Hue light, one of the best philips hue apps out there! Custom build algorithm analyses your screen and sends current colour to one of the selected lamps up to 10 times per second!
Select custom screen region to analyze for each light separately for a truly immersive ambient experience.
You can connect your TV to your Mac via HDMI output and select it in the app for the Ambient Light to analyse it's picture and adapt the colours accordingly!
You can configure the speed of the colour change, speed of the analyse algorithm and maximal brightness for your personal experience.

Warning: due to DRM it is impossible to use this app with Netflix.

Notice: due to Philips Hue Bridge hardware limitations it is possible to use only ONE lamp with such high speed update. With each consequently selected light maximum colour pick speed is going to be 100ms slower.

Won’t Work Anymore, Up until then it was alright,

I’ve restarted the app, my Mac, the Hub and anything that can be unplugged from a power source, and the app will not stop “Connecting”. Up until then, as I said in the title, it was alriight. Not much customization unless there’s something I’m missing, but I guess really the sole purpose is movie syncing. Maybe customization doesn’t happen with movie syncing, idk, i’m new to the Hue. But either way, it’s sole purpose it pulled off okay i guess. Not much to compare it too, except a yuotube video of this dude using Windows 10 on his Mac, and streaming it on the One, and the color changing was tremendous. this app…. 5 outta 10. Way too expensive, that’s for sure, and for now, not working whatsoever.

Developer Response

Hi ZachLombardi27,
thank you for your review and we are sorry to hear that the app doesn't work for you. Usually, in case there are problems connecting to your Hue Bridge, you could try navigating to the menu Bridge -> Switch Bridge. That should start pairing process once again and usually solves any issues with connectivity with a Hue Bridge that sometimes might occur due to some firmware glitches in the Hue Bridge.

I dig it

I just found this app and have been using it with my MacBook using the Apple TV as a secondary display. I have the iTunes Visualizer running on the TV and the lights responding to that color hue. It’s pretty rad actually. The only recommendation I have for improvement is adding some functionality to allow multiple lights to automatically analyze different areas of the screen instead of having to manually select different areas of the screen for different light reactions. But, overall, it’s a really good app. 👍🏻

Developer Response

Hi Meageropulence, thank you so much for your review! We are happy that you like our app. Thank you for your feature recommendation, we are going to pass it to our devs. Thank you once again! Your Ambient Light Team.

When I start Netflix, it dims the lights, and when I enter full screen, they turn off completely. Even if the screen is bright white.

Also the 2 minute trial thing is terrible. At least make it 2 hours, so people can test it with a movie or something.

Developer Response

Hi Wolfy519,
We are sorry that you can’t enjoy our app with Netflix, however we have stressed this in our app description on the AppStore that we can’t see what it is on on Netflix due to DRM issues - all the app sees is a black screen. In this way the system protects digital rights of the Netflix and film distributors. It is all in our app description. Your Ambient Light Team.
