You're all being fooled.
Amex isn't letting you spend your Reward Dollars to pay your bill in the app knowingly and deceitfully. Amex tries to get you to spend your reward dollars on frivolous garbage and/or just let them keep the reward dollars, rather than being able to pay your bill with them. Thus, I have to log into the website to pay my bill with reward dollars, which defeats the point of this app. They should provide a better customer experience and enable behavior that is in our, the customers, best interests.
It does show me my reward dollars, but there is no link to use them and no link to change my payment method in the bill pay section. Typical bankers, trying to appear friendly as they take your money.
Why The Bad Reviews?
I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews. This is one of the best apps I have. Is it better than PNC and Discover? No. Is it worse? Nope! I love the app. I hate technology because it always seems to malfunction around me, but this app works just fine: Touch ID, I can redeem my rewards, check my statements, and make payments. Only thing they could add would be to have the ability to question a transaction from the app instead of calling; not necessary, but would be nice.
Better banking/CC app than normal
My favorite banking/CC app is capital one however the Amex app is a close second. I have used about 10 different banks/CC over the last few years and I have transferred my accounts to either of these. The rewards for the cards are different so I use both. I like the interface and features of the Amex app and wish other companies would pay attention.
