ABOUT AMERICAN SONGWRITER
American Songwriter magazine is published bi-monthly. The magazine offers in-depth Q & A’s with up-and-coming, established and legendary songwriters, articles on technology, including the latest gadgets and gear every songwriter should know about, and reports on the business of music publishing with interviews and insight from publishers, producers and other industry professionals.
American Songwriter explores all genres of music, from country to hip-hop, folk to classical, rock to pop, blues to electronica and soul to r&b. Over the years, cover subjects have included Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Neil Young, Wilco, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, John Mellencamp, Paul McCartney, Beck, Dolly Parton, R.E.M., Weezer, Death Cab for Cutie, Ryan Adams, Merle Haggard, Tom Petty and many more.
Distributed internationally with a heavy domestic subscriber base, the readership of American Songwriter is just as diverse as its contents—professional to aspiring songwriters, music fans to music publishers, studio owners, copyright lawyers, record label presidents to music consumers.
Advertisers include national instrument manufacturers, record companies who want to gain exposure for their artists, publishers who honor writer achievements, demo studios, recording software companies and a select group of non-musical companies who position their product offerings to identify with music culture.
“A great, great magazine!” (Kris Kristofferson)

Ratings and Reviews
I wish I could give this zero stars. It’s been months since this app worked. I have sent numerous technical requests to fix and they ignore them. I will not renew my my subscription. I told them to cancel it, but they ignored THAT too.
Why am I buying two subscriptions????
The magazine is great: Mostly good interviews, with a few fluff bits thrown in.
However, like the other reviewer, I bought a subscription last May and was waiting for the next issue, but when the issues didn't update, I checked the account. There were "no purchases to restore" according to the app. I saw that there are now two American Songwriter items in the App Store and wondered about that. Thinking that perhaps my subscription would reappear if I tried to repurchase, I was dismayed to find that I had to buy a new $7.99 subscription in March even though my original subscription hadn't yet expired. I guess this means there are really two separate apps. Why?
Worse, some of the old issues that I had paid for last year appear in the app, but won't open. So it appears that I now own both a magazine-only app and a full-feature app (containing photos, mp3 downloads, etc.). The magazine-only app won't display old issues, while the full-feature app displays the old issues I bought, but won't open them.
I'm going to be very upset if I get another $7.99 charge in May when my last year's paid subscription expires.
I don't know what American Songwriter is trying to do here. Are they phasing out the full app and going to the magazine-only format? Whatever is going on, I'm not very happy with the runaround I seem to be getting.
Every time I open the magazine, it's back to the cover with the Read Now link below. Pretty lame that it doesn't keep my place. Even PDFs in iBooks can do that.
The gestures it has are annoying. I seem to trigger them simply by trying to move the zoomed page around with one finger.
When I'm zoomed into the first and second columns of a three-column page, if I try to move the page to view the second and third columns, it will often take me to the next page instead.
I have another version of American Songwriter in Newsstand. It seems they switched developers. The old version is in the App Store as well. I cannot access the free issue in that one that I once had.
