Good app, but needs some work
Simple and easy to use. I’m happy that I get to use the app with my Amex card. I suggest enabling Touch ID or Face ID for a quick, safe, easy access. Statements is at the forefront along with your balance, so there should be no confusion. Payment options is also easy since it’s attached to the balance. Rewards is also attached and sends alerts in a nearby area. One thing I didn’t realize I was doing was checking my spending power. This little button allows for certain transactions to be approved. Which is nice in case you have to make a large purchase and would rather not receive a call from Amex about approving a purchase. Don’t abuse this back-to-back consecutively because Amex will temporarily freeze your accounts.
Now here’s were the work needs to be added... Two-Step Authenticator is a must in today’s day and age, I don’t have the ability to add my bank info and I’m redirected to the Amex website, adding a card also tells me to call the number that is prompted(which is confusing since the mailed card recommends using the app), and the ability to turn my card on or off. Yanno, in the event if I misplaced or in the unfortunate event that I lost my card. All of this should be added to the app and also website.
But for anyone with the card, I highly suggest downloading the app to check statements and rewards.
I received my 1st reward certificate for a free weekend night. When I called to use this, was told had to make a separate reservation to use my points and to pay for last night of a 3 night stay. Was told could not receive my upgrade as a gold member and had to ask when I arrived and called again to explain would arrive late and wats told they were sold out. Then using my 80k points for 2nd night & paying for 3rd night, was told my stay could not be upgraded (despite offering to pay) but at hotel experienced bites the first night, informed management of this and that the points I had were split over 2 nights. Despite having plenty of points, for the 70k standard room, management told Hilton customer service that I didn’t have enough points for a night and secondly stated I didn’t ask to change rooms. When housekeeping came to change sheets while wearing blue gloves the young boy stood staring at the sheets and I had to change them myself. I asked if he had some type of spray and he responded “no”. Later he tried to return again 3rd time and when he asked if we wanted service, I told him no thank you, he then from outside the door stated you have to sign something to which I replied “no I do not”. I called Hilton guest services and reported this harassment. As a guest for a number of years and never treated like this, I will not return nor recommend this hotel again.
It Could be So Much Better
There are several problems with this app. What could’ve been a beautifully clean and pleasing to use design is messed up by American express his insistence on trying to sell you stuff. The biggest thing they’re trying to sell you is the chance to finance individual purchases, with their “plan it” offering, with a big plan it box by every medium to large purchase marring the design. It’s something I will never use, and neither should you. If you need financing assistance, it should not be done on an item by item basis. Likewise by other items they have a ‘pay it’ box, which just takes you to another screen and tells you, well you’re not actually paying for that item you’re just making a payment towards your account for that amount. So why did they more the design by putting all those stupid boxes? Then they throw in advertising like for Starbucks here in there. Sorry guys all I want to see my transactions with no distractions!!! Finally they do the same thing they do on their website and Pop up things you don’t want to see. And finally why is a partial image of an AMEX card I closed long long ago still showing on my screen. Ridiculous!
