The Anova Culinary App is the companion app to the Anova Precision Cooker. The iPhone App makes it incredibly easy to cook anything you want with Anova. You simply find the food you’re cooking, adjust the settings you’d like, and hit start. With our exclusive Serious Eats steak guide, there’s no need to search for time and temperature settings to cook the perfect steak. It will all be programmed into your phone. New time and temperature guides will be added regularly so you can cook anything you want at the touch of a button.
What is Precision Cooking?
Once limited to the world's best restaurants, precision cooking (commonly referred to as sous vide) is now the fastest growing kitchen appliance category. The Anova Precision Cooker represents the next evolution of precision cooking technology, making it easy and affordable for everyone to reap the benefits of this type of cooking. Precision cooking is extremely easy. It usually involves these three simple steps:
1. Attach the Anova Precision Cooker to a pot and set time and temp using the app or the device interface. Using the app, simply find what you're cooking and hit "start."
2. Put food in a ziplock bag and clip it to the side of the pot. The circulator moves water around the pot, ensuring a consistent temperature throughout.
3. Finish with a quick sear or broil, or even throw it on the grill for a nice, crispy finish.

Nice Recipe Collection
The Bluetooth pairing with the circulating heater works... but what's the purpose of it? The app can't put the food in or take it out. You need to be physically there to do that. And as long you have to physically there, why not use the controls on the circulator itself? Temperature up, temperature down, start, stop... it's not so complex that I need an app. Maybe it would be nice if you're waiting for your bath to come up to temperature, but it's Bluetooth, so the range is very limited, twenty to fifty feet (if you're lucky) so you can't venture farther away than you can hear the circulator' own alarm beep that sounds when the bath reaches temperature. It seems to me that this is just connectivity and Bluetooth for the sake of being able to say that you have it, not for any real purpose or benefit. Oh well.
The recipe database is nice... a bit shallow, but I have hopes that Anova will grow it over time. The recipes are well-written and easy-to-follow and most don't call do unobtainable ingredients.
What is really shallow, unfortunately, is the time/temperature guide. But, again, I have hopes that it Anova will expand it.
So, the app is nice for what it is and I hope it will expand in the future.
Ok but need work!
This could be a really useful app. I do like the recipes but don't use them often because 1. the meat thickness options are limited 2. there are only so many. My other issue is that I always have issues with the timer countdown starting if the app is not open & absolutely active. Lastly the whole reason I bought the Bluetooth version was so I could control the temp & time away from the unit in conjunction w/ the app. Luckily I have the app on my work cell but the silly thing's range is almost nonexistent. I love the unit itself but the app is pretty awful. Wish someone would take the time to improve it.
Great recipes; limited controller
I don't find this app useful to control or monitor my cooker; I can make adjustments manually. (It would be nice if it were possible to silence the cooker when the timer expires; since overcooking is, practically speaking, all but impossible, do I really need the cooker to constantly remind me that the allotted time has finished?)
The great value of this app, to me, is in the collection of recipes. I love the fact that Anova seems regularly to add to the collection. Good job on that; keep it up!!
