Good idea, bad execution
This app has the potential to be a very good product. However, if you are an instrument rated pilot and intend to fly into airports with numerical identifiers, this app will likely not work for you. There is a known bug with this app that prevents the loading of approach plates for airports with numerical identifiers. Since I am based out of one of these airports, the money spent on this app is wasted. I have been in contact with the company (when I can get them to respond) over the past 10 months about this issue. I have been promised an upgrade "within the next 10 - 15 days." This promise has been repeated numerous times over the past 5 months.
If you go to the company's website, it doesn't present a very positive scenario. It sounds as though the company is in a significant state of disarray, which leads one to wonder how much longer the company will survive. I have been a long time customer of this company, but I am finding that service has been on a sustained decline for the past year. At present, I have attempted to correspond with the support group, as prescribed on the website, to determine a current status on updates to this app. As of the writing of this review, that inquiry has gone unanswered for 3 weeks.
In summary, I'd save your money and a whole lot of headaches ... look elsewhere for an app to meet your EFB needs.
Aviators, read and heed.
This app isn’t in the same league as ForeFlight, Wing-X, or Garmin’s app.
Let me start off by saying the clarity of the charts is pathetic. Even with a Retina screen, both the sectional and enroute low altitude charts seem “fuzzy”, decidedly unsharp and out of focus — regardless of how much you zoom in or out.
The menu system is convoluted, and dosen’t seem intuitive at all. Routine functions and setups are buried deep within the bowels of the app, and completely frustrate users accustomed to modern interfaces. Indeed, the entire Anywhere Map system seems “dated” and in need of a GUI overhaul.
The one item that I felt held some promise was the “vertical guidance” function that is integrated into the HSI display. Indeed, vertical guidance is the ONLY reason I was tempted to purchase Anywhere Map, because no other iPad app offers it — yet. For some reason, no other serious/legitimate app writer wants to “tangle” with vertical guidance, even with the disclaimers and “caveat-emptors”.
If Control Vision wants to make an impact, they’d better have a fire sale and reduce the price of this thing to $9.99 — or even $1.99. It’s an app (a curiosity?) for the VFR weekend-warrior that has no intention of venturing much beyond 25 or 50 miles from their home airport on some severe-clear weekend.
I cannot recommend this app for serious flight management. I wasted my money. Learn from my mistake.
Best anywhere map iv used
Use anywhere map on old hp compaq and still love it but it is slow. Got a newer one on some hp crap last year and its just as slow and doesn't have the dedicated hardware zoom button. I never use it.
This iOS version has nearly all the features of the above but runs way faster and pans and zooms easily like most iOS map apps. Before buying it was hard to tell if this allowed the classic anywhere map background or just cluttered sectional but it does have the good old easy to read anywhere map option and has customizable views like other anywhere maps. Looks like many features are forth coming including xm weather but for $50 this is a great deal, especially for those who have used anywhere map before.
This map actually showed a restricted airspace much more clearly than the one on my old hp ipaq. Also nice to be able to switch to sectional which you can't do on my other anywhere maps.
Be sure to go into tools after you download and click to do the updates so it pulls the terrain and map updates.
Looking forward to iPhone 5 screen support.
