AP Stylebook Online
By The Associated Press
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
AP Stylebook Online takes everything you love about the traditional Stylebook and adds digital functionality and online-only features to make it an even better resource.
The Associated Press is retiring this standalone iOS app because of compatibility issues with newer operating systems. Now AP recommends you use the redesigned apstylebook.com, which features a mobile-friendly responsive design to make it easy for you to access your AP Stylebook Online account on your mobile devices.

Better solution, I think
The prior versions of the Stylebook app were one-shot deals, sort of like buying an iBook (which probably would have been a better was to do it). They could not be updated, even mid-year; you had to buy a new version (at full price) every year.
An annual subscription to the Stylebook Online is less expensive than the app was, and is updated instantly. It's also downloaded to the app, so you have the information offline. The only question will be whether it stays loaded after the subscription runs out; that would necessitate paid renewal every year, whereas I was buying the app version alternate years.
On the other hand, the app (my latest is 2012) does not disappear nor lose its effectiveness with the addition of this one -- it's like having a slightly older Stylebook, which is not uncommon in the newsrooms I've worked in.
Obviously, people who want to re-download their older app will be disappointed because it's been removed from the store (too common, I think, with apps). But if they have it on a computer, they have lost nothing.
Everything I've wanted t to be!
I've been a subscriber to the online Stylebook for years but have stayed away from the app since it was a separate product. Now that it links to an online account, this app is amazing. Simple layout and easy access to industry specific entries (like business). I like the "Random Entry" feature, too. The only thing I would like to see would be the option for a Random Entry widget on my notifications screen.
You stole my stylebook!
Is it even allowable under Apple’s terms of service to do what the AP Stylebook has done? I have been using a version of the app from a few years ago quite happily, waiting for an update. Suddenly an update comes through and POOF! my stylebook is GONE and I’m told to sign into an AP Stylebook Online account (which I do not have and do not want to have). So you’ve taken the $25 or so that I spent for the app and basically stolen it. It’s one thing to not update it, but to rescind it outright cannot be OK with Apple. Furthermore, I do not want to have to be online to use the Stylebook, I want it to reside on my phone.
