What’s New

Version 1.4.16

I fixed a few more bugs since the last update that have been reported, thanks everyone! Keep on being awesome! :)

- Fixed bug that could cause GIFs to crash
- Fixed bug where it could say a negative amount of comments were deleted (eg -3)
- Fixed bug where you could tap on the deleted comments to try to load them (from the shadow realm??)
- Fixed app icons loading slow and some oddities around it
- Fixed wrong background color in crash reporting screen in dark mode
- Fixed bug with bars showing back in Hide Bars on Scroll mode
- Fixed bug with user post histories not loading
- Fixed bug with subreddit sorts applying weirdly
- Fixed bug where you could tap on the "No comments" indicator for a post
- Fixed some weird edge cases that could cause crashes (thanks for the crash reports!)

Previous update:

- Fixed bug where when scrolling through subreddit posts sometimes (randomly) Apollo would stop loading more content
- Fixed bug where tapping “Load x more comments” wouldn't do anything
- When you tap "Load x more comments" it now shows you a loading indicator/spinner
- In the event that the loading of more comments actually fails for some reason Apollo will now properly notify you
- Fixed bug where comments could get in a weird collapse state that would make them difficult to expand, or they'd be collapsed when they shouldn't be
- Fixed bug where GIFs could turn black when rotating to landscape in the media viewer (I actually fixed it this time, haha)
- Fixed bug where silent GIFs could interrupt background audio (like music or podcasts)
- Fixed bug where inserting quotes could cause autocorrect to be disabled when typing comments or posts
- Logs from the last updated helped a ton (thanks!), doing more in this update with adding anonymous crash reporting and analytics
- In addition to this there's also the option to send in an app store receipt if you're having problems restoring for instance
- Fixed bug where when opening a notification it could sometimes trap you without any way to dismiss the opened post
- Fixed bug where the option to subscribe or unsubscribe from a subreddit would go missing
- Fixed bug where subscribed subreddit list would be empty for no reason
- Fixed bug where Controversial sort in profiles was mislabeled as Top
- Fixed bug where the current selected comments sort wouldn't be visible in the selector
- Fixed bug where you were unable to award a post (silver, gold, platinum) from within the post itself
- Fixed some more instances where the tab bar could begin floating (also a smart adapter)
- Fixed bug where the confetti associated with giving an award wouldn't match that specific award's metal
- Fixed bug where platinum icon was incorrect
- Moderator links for a specific subreddit (traffic, mod queue, mod mail, etc.) were problematic, temporarily removed while I build in natively
- Fixed bug where YouTube thumbnails sometimes wouldn't load
- Fixed bug where Reddit short links (redd.it) wouldn't work with the "Open in Apollo" functionality
- Fixed bug where the "Open in Apollo" functionality wouldn't work inside some apps like Mail apps
- Fixed bug where "Open in Apollo" could open but not actually load anything (embarrassing)
- Fixed bug where once you set a third-party Twitter client to open in Settings you couldn't unset it
- Fixed bug where replying-to-context could overlay content in comment/post composer
- Fixed bug where some two-level top-level-domains (such as .ac.uk) wouldn't display properly in thumbnails, same with IP addresses
- Fixed bug where some Gfycat URLs wouldn't load
- Trimmed random spaces in middle of comment
- When saving GIFs there's now a "Saved!" notification like with images
- Bunch of other small fixes and tweaks

Thanks for all the support everyone. I'm going to keep working hard building Apollo better for each and every one of you.

If you're a fan of the detailed changelogs, or even are just enjoying Apollo, a tip helps a TON. It's just me building the app. :)

Best app ever?

Seriously this is the best app I’ve ever used. Sleek, responsive, super easy to use, destroys the competition and best of all its freeeeee. And the pro version of the app is 100% worth it unless you don’t reddit on mobile that often and even then I think it’s hella worth. Now I use my mobile to surf reddit instead of my desktop lol.

Just a few notes I wanted to leave for the dev. Just nip pick stuff nothing serious. 1.) Is there anyway you could make the upvote and downvote buttons slightly bigger..? I find myself fat fingering and opening things that are already right in front of me. 2.) I had trouble tipping to upgrade to pro when I tried. Idk if it’s on your end or stupid Apple Pay crap but when I would click the tips it would just forever lag. I tried multiple times and after several attempts today I finally got it to go through. Just figured it was worth checking into Incase it’s happening to others too. 3.) The only thing missing in the comment selector(three lil dots) is a block the user option. That’s the only problem I’ve had with this app really and I’d really like to see that added at some point.

Thanks for all your hard work and great job on a fantastic app. Who knows maybe reddit will wise and make Apollo the official reddit app and stop trying to compete with real deal 🤟

Absolutely Stellar App, Developer is 🔥

Apollo is by far the most-used app on my phone (and now I have the ScreenTime reports to prove it). It is orders of magnitude better than the “official” reddit app and is superior in every way. It is fast and smooth and packed with features. I especially love that I can pick the theme I want, change the icon, and remove ads! The thing I hated most about the official app was the ads that were disguised as legitimate posts and with Apollo that’s all gone!

I bought the Pro upgrade months ago to gain access to additional features and it was one of the few in-app purchases I have never regretted or felt like wasn’t worth the cost. Today the developer released an update adding a bunch of new features that require a very reasonable (seems underpriced to be honest) monthly subscription, and like a true bro he has the option to unlock it for life with a onetime purchase! I hate monthly and even yearly subscriptions so I especially appreciated this option.

All that by itself should convince you that this app is worth it, but the thing that really seals the deal is the developer. He is amazing. Super active with feedback and very open in his communication about the status of the app’s development and requested features.

One small problem as of recently

So I've been using this app essentially from when it was created and I have and still do absolutely love. I only use a fraction of all the features it has to offer and even still it is by far the best Reddit mobile experience I've seen.

However, for the past week or so there's been a reoccurring glitch that has been incredibly frustrating. I'm using an iPhone 7 running iOS 11.2.1 for the record. So this usually occurs after I've been using the app for at least 10-15 minutes continuously. I'll be a few dozen posts down through my home page or one specific subreddit and suddenly I'll lose the ability to click on posts. I can scroll through the subreddit, click on the thumbnail, vote, and even use haptic touch or whatever it's called. But I can't click in a way that brings me to the post's "page" and thus there's no way I can view more than the top couple comments. The problems seems to fix itself temporarily when I force close the app and come back, but then I lose my place in the subreddit or on my home page. It's a very annoying problem on an app that has otherwise worked perfectly.
Please fix soon, and my rating will go back up to 5 stars.
