Decent, not amazing

There's the Ap and the whole system, which is run by the Ap. Both are decent, but not amazing. The Ap signs me out all the time, which adds an extra step to any action I want to take to manage or view the cameras. It's a pointless sign out, since the Ap saves my complete log in info. Inside the Ap, navigation isn't as simple as it could be; there are multiple steps to get to every obvious place; but it is easy to navigate those steps and very simple to understand. My one wish was that the Ap was more aggressive and more timely at alerting me when my cameras pick up motion. The delay is a few minutes long, which gives the bad guys a real head start. The alerts are meek and easy to not notice when your phone is on vibrate or silent. It would be really cool if you could create a rule that prompted the Ap to call you with an automated message if you don't acknowledge an incident where there are multiple cameras alerting. The system is also good but not amazing. It's integrations with the Samsung SmartThings hub is lackluster (mostly because the SmartThings Ap itself is not great); it can only integrate with the wireless cameras. There are tons of other little things that could be better about the system, too. Overall, I like it enough but I wish it was better

Motion detection could be improved

The system is excellent in terms of setup/ease of installation. The area that needs to be improved is motion detection. I've had to tilt the camera so that it doesn't cover the street in front of my home at all, which keeps me from getting the ideal image of the rest of my property. The motion capture is based on speed of change of seemingly even small parts of the captured image. When I turned the speed sensitivity settings to the point where it wouldn't trigger with a car speeding down at the top of the frame it then didn't trigger at all when someone drove scoop loader and worked much more slowly in a much larger section of the image. Bad.

I have used several wired camera systems over the years that allow you to mask part of the image where you don't want to capture movement--like a busy street.

My suggestion to the app developers: add a screen to the settings section where you can select spaces on a grid of your capture area that you wish to ignore. If you do this then you will have a 5 star product.

It should be amazing, but it's time to really fix geofencing.

I did a lot of research on which camera system to buy. I ultimately decided on Arlo because it is a wireless system. That is its best feature. After I downloaded the app and started to experience bugs, I hopped on the Arlo site to troubleshoot. I discovered that a lot of my issues are known issues that others have experienced going back over a year. That was disappointing to discover. The geofencing feature has been in beta for well over a year. Beta...for over a year. It is one of the buggiest parts of the app. If you have multiple users, it may or may not work. If it works, after a day or so, it won't work again. Another big flaw is that you have to sign in every single time you use the app. Ridiculous.
I am aware that they have fingerprint sign in, but James C on the Netgear site suggests turning it off to help geofencing issues. By the way, doing that doesn't fix the geofencing issues. If the bugs were truly fixed, and there wasn't the run around on the support site, this would be rated much higher.
