Decent, not amazing

There's the Ap and the whole system, which is run by the Ap. Both are decent, but not amazing. The Ap signs me out all the time, which adds an extra step to any action I want to take to manage or view the cameras. It's a pointless sign out, since the Ap saves my complete log in info. Inside the Ap, navigation isn't as simple as it could be; there are multiple steps to get to every obvious place; but it is easy to navigate those steps and very simple to understand. My one wish was that the Ap was more aggressive and more timely at alerting me when my cameras pick up motion. The delay is a few minutes long, which gives the bad guys a real head start. The alerts are meek and easy to not notice when your phone is on vibrate or silent. It would be really cool if you could create a rule that prompted the Ap to call you with an automated message if you don't acknowledge an incident where there are multiple cameras alerting. The system is also good but not amazing. It's integrations with the Samsung SmartThings hub is lackluster (mostly because the SmartThings Ap itself is not great); it can only integrate with the wireless cameras. There are tons of other little things that could be better about the system, too. Overall, I like it enough but I wish it was better

Motion detection could be improved

The system is excellent in terms of setup/ease of installation. The area that needs to be improved is motion detection. I've had to tilt the camera so that it doesn't cover the street in front of my home at all, which keeps me from getting the ideal image of the rest of my property. The motion capture is based on speed of change of seemingly even small parts of the captured image. When I turned the speed sensitivity settings to the point where it wouldn't trigger with a car speeding down at the top of the frame it then didn't trigger at all when someone drove scoop loader and worked much more slowly in a much larger section of the image. Bad.

I have used several wired camera systems over the years that allow you to mask part of the image where you don't want to capture movement--like a busy street.

My suggestion to the app developers: add a screen to the settings section where you can select spaces on a grid of your capture area that you wish to ignore. If you do this then you will have a 5 star product.

Homeowner

Works as advertised. My wife was skeptical of me purchasing the product however once she saw it in action she was a firm believer. It was a great relief while she and I were in the hospital with our first kid for nearly a week.

Ease of installation: easily a 5 star. Followed the directions and never had an issue. I ordered the Arlo black mounts to allow a better range of motion that wouldn't move. I also hope they would be harder to steal rather than being magnetized.

Access via phone app: 5 stars. I never read the instructions of how to use the app and was able to dive in and figure it out without hiccups. My plan is to now go back and read it and learn the finer points.

Video: 4 stars. I think the video is good but having seen higher end surveillance equipment I know there is MUCH better. But given the price it's a fair deal.

Audio: 3.5 stars. I love that I can hear and speak with people however the lag time between me speaking and them speaking makes the convo not as fluid. It's not horrible but certainly annoying.

Overall cons: this is where my rating brings the score down and perhaps this will change when I learn more and hopefully discover a setting option. If my video is triggered, it auto saves a 10 second clip. But if they remain in the area it doesn't go beyond that. I would LOVE to see that it would allow you to set a longer record time for motion, say 30 seconds-1 minute as long as motion continues.

Worth the buy hands down.
