Works of arts used in the application are to the best of our knowledge in the public domain.
This app is thoroughly disappointing. The app crashes regularly, has remarkably unresponsive user interface, and the gyroscope works inconsistently. In addition to these serious shortcomings, using an artist's full name in the search bar provides no result; forcing users to limit themselves to using only an artist's first or last name. This is particularly problematic if someone is looking for an artist with a common name like "John." Not only is locating an artist inconvenient, but search results replicate the artist's Wikipedia page. (I'm serious—I checked.) Consequently, not only is this app astoundingly redundant, it's not worth its price. I was initially disappointed that only about one-third of any featured artist's works are available with this app, but after seeing the poor image quality and low resolution, I was relieved to know that the painful experience would be limited. If this app is about art, then why is it easier to get better results from "Google Images"?
looks beautiful at first but awfully frustrating
I spent a very enjoyable 45 minutes reading about John Singer Sargent and looking at many portraits of his. This app has a great deal of potential but constant crashing makes me wonder whether it will be worth it to upgrade to the "deluxe" version for 5.99. That's just expensive enough to give pause, lest even the paid app turn out to be as buggy as the free version. I would love to give my money on an app that educates me and others in the humanities, but I'm leery...Developers, if you are reading this, reassure me. Don't assume that a sub-par free version will automatically kick everyone up to the paid version; the reverse might be the case instead.
Love this app!
But I haven't been able to get into it for several weeks now. The app opens but none of the puzzles will open, even some that I have done before. I haven't changed to iOS 5 but I had problems with this before iOS 5 came out. I miss my puzzles! Very challenging and fun!
