Horrible, service! Dishonest! Stay away!!
Zero star! I actually paid for this app and been using it to doc my kids art for a couple of years and loved it.
Now all of a sudden I got an email saying I need to have a membership in order to continue using the app. They are also holding my kids art hostage and threaten to delete my kids art unless I pay the membership or I can painfully download the pictures. If I knew that it was going to happen, I would have NEVER use this app to save important memories of my kids art. NEVER!
I feel soo betrayed and SCAMMED!!! I never should have trust this company with something so important. I thought because I paid for the app, I can trust it. Well, I was wrong! Been trying to download each file one at a time, but it takes about 2 minutes per file to download with occasional "error screen". It's been 2 hours now and I'm still in the process of downloading. I recommended this app to so many family, friends, and mom groups. Now I'm getting frustrated and upsetting emails from people about this app. And I had to apologize about recommending this app to them. I hope your greed for money was worth betraying your customers (especially those who paid) because you just lost a whole lot of support. Message to those who are looking for a new home for your kids art: I recommend Shutterfly, Blurb, or Google Photo (all of which I've been using for years). Just make a folder for your kids art in one of those site.

Sorry you're so frustrated but you've been given a month to download your art FOR FREE and you can choose to go elsewhere. 2 of our plans include free books and discounts which offset most/all of the cost of membership. If you don't value books, and you don't value the organization, storage and security we offer, then we understand we're not the right service for you and will be sad to see you go.
Bait and switch
For functionality, it's 4.5 stars. It works well and does its very tight niche well. Easily worth 4.99. For my wife and I, it was actually worth 4.99 x 2 as we both wanted access to our account on our phones, so we both had to buy it. That's a fair price...though given the overall limited scope of what it does, I don't think charging any more makes sense. And in fact, we were both under the impression that in buying the app, we'd have access to the service (the bait). We happily used it for a while then today, on opening the app today, we got a message saying that to keep using the app we PAID for (twice) we'd have to subscribe at a minimum of 3 dollars a month. This is more than it costs for me to have iCloud back up my whole iPhone. And if we don't subscribe they reserve the right to delete our kids artwork. Great. So I'm going to pay now to be able to download all the artwork currently being held hostage...then I'm going to find another solution. There is a free app called artmykidmade that doesn't look as tight, but it does allow for backing up to other services you might already have (Evernote, Dropbox, FB etc). I'm going to give this a try and if it works, I'll post a review over there too. Artkive, shame on your business model.

Hi Benji - Sorry you feel this way. Our memberships currently offer 2 months free to offset anything previously paid. We've tried a number of different price points for the app including being free (which it is now) for the majority of the time we've been in business. You can contact us at email@example.com and we can add additional credit if your package doesn't equal out. We'd hate to see you go - particularly to an app that hasn't been updated in 4+ years as that seems highly risky. We continue to find ways to improve our offering and focus on great customer service so you know your memories are always safe with us. Feel free to reach out directly anytime.
What a Disappointment
Last year, I purchased the artkive app for $4.99 with the understanding that I would be able to store, access, and share my daughter's artwork indefinitely. I spent hours uploading years and years worth of her art, and then I threw away most of the original artwork to save space in my home. Then they made the horrible business decision to suddenly require a pricey membership fee, OR we can pay $49 to do a bulk download. Do they really think I'm going to pay upwards of $30 a year for the rest of my life for this "service"? Ridiculous. What a disgusting display of greed and extortion. I just spent an hour re-downloading the art to my phone, one by one, before the deadline tomorrow when they lock me out unless I pay a fee, and I'm now done with artkive forever. I will NEVER purchase another app from these people. Instead, I downloaded google photos for free, created an album called "Art", and moved all her art to there. Easy, free, and should hopefully be stored there indefinitely without a problem. Oh, and their reason for the membership fee was so they could continue to offer more and better "products" for their customers to purchase (pricey photo albums, etc) ...so WE'D be paying to help THEM make more money. Nice try, but we're not idiots.

We're sorry you're so upset about the fact that we've moved to a membership model - despite the great benefits that come with membership. Doing so has ensured the long term stability of our company. We're so pleased so many of our users have chosen to support a service they value and we'd love for you to reconsider your position. If you can't afford it, email us as we've set up a fund for people who love the app but can't manage the nominal monthly fee. We're sorry to be losing you.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
