Updating my review: I received a response from the developers regarding the review I made upon my first try of Artstudio Pro, as seen below this one. The developer asked me to send a screen-shot of the problem. But when I tried to replicate the problem I couldn't because I did not remember the exact steps I took at that time. However, I did try to replicate the problem and it ended up that I did in fact accomplish what I tried to to when the problem arose. Whew! What a long explanation! So, at this point I've got to say that I am getting better aquainted with the app and I love it. It just takes a little patience, practice, and time. So folks, have some of the above and enjoy. I have a feeling that this app is going someplace good. My first review was on December 28, 2017 and here it is:
I have the old ArtStudio and I love it, so naturally I got the Pro version. At this point, I would like to say that I prefer the old. However, I am definitely going to keep working on getting used to this one because it's going to be good once I do. So far, I have found one problem. The problem is that I see the MOVE function, but on my app it is greyed out and it did not work for me. This disappointed me, but I may be doing something wrong. I will not give up until I learn this one just like I learned the other one. So for now, four stars. Hopefully when things get ironed out, I can give this app five stars. But not bad for a new app!

Developer Response

Please send me more details to email info@luckyclan.com, screenshot with greyed out MOVE function will be helpful. Move functions may be greyed out because active layer has enabled 'Lock position'. Or maybe active layer is adjustment layer.

lots of great stuff!

i was really excited when i saw that they made an update, and im pretty happy with it. there really are a gazillion brushes, and also seperate opacity and flow sliders are useful. blur is much less buggy and so is autosave, theres really no lag on anything. and making it work with apple pencil is really cool!
although i miss custom brushes! that was one of my favorite parts of the old app, and either i havent found it yet or it was removed, because i can only seem to save manipulations of the brushes offered.
that and that the smudge tool no longer recognizes transparent as a color. previously, you could drag from a transparent part of the layer into a colored part, and it smeared transparency into it. Now it only ever adds more color, so smearing something at a low opacity darkens it and it overall turns out messy.
transform is glitchy too, and not as easy as before. and the brush preview isnt as indicative as the old one.
plenty of needed tweaks, but its still really usefull and my go-to art app, save a couple things i still need to go back to the orginal to use, which is understandable for its first release.

Might be good....eventually.

BIG change from the older program, was really looking forward to this as ArtStudio has been my favorite app for years. Unfortunately I can't get a pen to work the way I want. Nothing in the settings seems to make much difference and does this ONLY work with the Apple Pencil?? None of my styluses seem to work any different than my finger even after enabling "dynamics". I will keep an eye on this app but will be using the old one until things are (hopefully) fixed.

Edit: The old program you could easily make any brush taper as well as fade the opacity in and out. Those settings are now either non existent or too well hidden.

Edit2: I tried the settings you mention for the taper and opacity. If I could send you a screen shot to show a "before and after" you would also see no difference in the brush. I stand by my original statement.

Edit3: While I think there is still room for improvement with the brush settings, I did notice that the dynamics work better on the included brushes than the imported ones. Also, it took me a while to figure out how masking works now. Quite a departure (putting it above the layer you are masking was not intuitive). I will admit that improvements, bug fixes and responses have been great. I'm also using the app more and love that I can actually use an iPhone app to work on real work now and it's pretty seamless integrating it into my workflow. I added a star. Hope to add more.

Developer Response

If you mean Pencil tool - Pencil Tool generates hard-edge strokes, it is useful mainly to generate pixel perfect images. For general painting purposes basic tool is "Paint".
Styluses - currently only Apple Pencil is supported, exactly like in the old ArtStudio. We will add support for other styluses soon.
Taper: open Brush Editor->Dynamics->Finger->Size/Opacity/Flow/etc->Stroke End or Stroke Start/End
Update: please send me screenshot with expected result to info@luckyclan.com and i promise i will find a solution.
Update: We added two help sections in version 1.0.6: 'Get Started' and 'FAQ' - available in 'Artstudio' submenu, please read them.

Update: please give me your email and I will send you screenshots with explanation how to set taper effect. Send it to my email: info@luckyclan.com
Masking - i know it is a bit different then in other apps, but in Artstudio Pro you can set Text Layer as a mask (you have to rasterize it in other apps), and you can also set few masks to a single layer.
