ASCII Art is a powerful generator that converts digital pictures into amazing looking text art. Output art to both black/white text and full color, with the ability to export plain text, html, tif, and rtf files. A user editable character set adjusts the available characters to be used, while the maximum character width option controls the finished product size. Real time previews make for easy source image tweaking, allowing for the best possible results to be obtained.
Compatible source images include jpeg, png, gif, bmp, psd, tif, tga, jpg, tiff, and more. Output quality greatly depends on the input file. Often images such as clip art work better than sources such as digital photos. High image contrast and a clean white background always helps. Your milage may vary, experiment!

Ratings and Reviews
I like to sketch small cartoons on my iPad, this app works really well onceI transfer them to my iMac. It would be awesome to watch a full video animated like this! Digital photos definitely come out better in color and at high resolution. Not sure why there is a 512 character limit for width, I have some panoramas I'd like to run through the app.
Nice front end for ASCII art generation, but has bugs
Exporting locks up the save dialog on El Captian. I work around this by cutting and pasting text and doing my own reformat in a text editor, but this more or less makes the app kind of useless beyond generating the ASCII art and previewing it. Hopefully it gets some updating for current operating system bugs one day, but otherwise I’d steer clear.
this is a pretty cool app. Worth checking out if you have a need for it.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
