Don’t bother to read the older reviews!

This is a great app! I’m a lead developer for an open source Java project and I’ve been using the free iPad app for about a month. It was a little difficult to get used to a few things in the beginning, but I’ve become pretty proficient with it now. There are still things I wish it could do (their web site says it can do Notes and Note Actors, but I don’t see how, for example) but even as an evaluation tool, it has been valuable for me.

I’m planning to spend my own money to try astah Professional on the desktop and I’d like to see some features added to the iPad (since I have my iPad in front of me as often — or more often — than I have my laptop). It would help my workflow to be able to do the same operations on both platforms.

I plan to experiment with the command line interface so that I can create a Git hook that allows designs to be exported as SVG and incorporated into our public wiki pages on GitHub. I doubt I’d be able to do this on the GitHub site since astah Pro would need to be installed there, but even running the hook locally and pushing the result for inclusion in the Pull Request would be a huge step in the right direction.

Simple to use

A great class diagram scratchpad for building models quickly and effectively. Utterly intuitive and frankly a joy to use.

Pretty good...but crashes on me

In particular, it crashes whenever I try to email XML, which makes it a whole lot less useful. And apparently if you haven't done the right things before attempting to email XML, it loses your document as well.

I like the simplicity of the UI very much--in comparison with many UML editors I have tried which are so "complete" that they slow me down--so I disagree with some of the other reviewers who want a lot more features from it.

That doesn't mean it does everything I could want, of course.

I do wish it would allow me to print. And I would like to represent abstract classes somehow. It claims to support interfaces as well, as classes, but I haven't figured out how to do that, so perhaps a help page would be a good thing too!

But the crash when I try to email XML is the big killer for me. (And if email XML worked, then the top feature request would be from my coworker who would like to receive that email on his iPad and edit it there.)
