A strategic sim farm game that's graphics belie it's depth
Astro Ranch will not hold your hand and guide you around. If you want a great farm sim, with endearing graphics and a lot of options then this is the game for you.
If you read the negatives reviews, they can actually be seen as very positive inclusions into a great sim experience. " character moves to slow, cant wait until the last minute to get to the store.."
While a child might see this as a flaw slowing them down, it is instead a very good way to force you as a player to manage your time appropriately. This type of game falls more in line with Harvest Moon rather then Animal crossing. Time IS an issue, and it increases the challenge level.
If you are looking for an addictive time sink then this is a great choice. It's your own self guided ranch, so farm how you like and see how far you can go!
Destroying pastures - use your hammer!
Planting multiple plants at once - tap the tool button and then drag your finger across your fields
Fishing - when you get a nibble shake your iPod/iPad to hook it..then use the reel
Crashes too often - as in EVERY TIME
This game worked great and was a lot of fun for both my son and I until we got to a rank of about level 5 or so (roughly 4 hours of play). Since then the game crashes EVERY time we play, and we lose our progress. I don't know whether the game can't handle it once you have a decent sized farm and a couple animals or what, but it almost always crashes when checking the mailbox, and it will crash randomly and non-reporducable points. I would honestly rate this a 5 star for all the enjoyment my son was getting out it, but he says he's not going to play anymore because he has to keep re-doing everything, and I don't blame him.
The iPhone version also crashes out a lot.
Fix the stability issues and this game would rule. Thanks

I like it
Although I have been enjoying this game, there are some things that are annoying and can get frustrating at times.
The character moves too slowly - it really does move as slow as a turtle, If I start walking to the store at 6:30 I can't even make it before they close at 7:00.
Animals - the animals have numerous bugs such as you can't target or click on them at times.
Inventory - you've got to be joking, 8 slots? I can't even fit my tools with 8 inventory slots, I end up spending half my time walking to the barn just to get different tools.
Worst of all, NO instructions - I can't tell you how many hours I've spent trying to find certain things out in the game. It's insanely complicated to plant, feed, and water the things if you don't know how. To this day I have not found out how to delete your current pastures to replace them with upgraded ones.
If you can deal with a bit of frustration, then I'd suggest this game. Even with the annoyances, I enjoy the game and will continue playing.
