Not the Netflix App. This app does not easily switch between other apps. If you have to switch to an app and switch back, it takes a couple of minutes for it to continue streaming live feed. Sometimes it just ceases to work and you have to shutdown and restart the app for it to work again. Also, every so often the app will freeze or crash right before a show ends. I find this happens a lot between the ending of an hour and the beginning of the next one. I've tried running On-Demand several times and the app will only run the first 5 minutes then crash. I gave up trying to view On-Demand. I thought it was because I had an iPad 2 but I tried it on my iPhone 5 and I still get the same issues. The remote control feature is a hit or miss. If this app could deliver on the features it offers, it would rock, but because frequent crashes and the time and effort it takes to get the app to work again, I give it 2 stars. I would give it 1, but when you get the live feed to work, it works exceptionally well.
I miss the Optimum App
Regardless of what I was lead to believe, this app is not an extension of your TV service. Anyone considering using this service, be aware of what you CAN’T do with it. Not every channel you subscribe to is available to view on the iPad. For some reason you can’t watch any basic channels like ABC, NBC, CBS. I was convinced to switch from cablevision, where you can essentially use your iPad like another tv. It’s so disappointing to that every time I want to watch something it’s not available. Most of the time it’s takes several attempts to even watch an available channel. That’s if you can get by the constant error messages like “you’ve exceeded you’re allowable downloads” or “you must be connected to your home network to use this app” (I’m always using it in my home). Eventually I was told by an at&t representative that there are limitations to the app, just like how a website has many more features than the accompanying app. There are also way too many steps to even get to a channel you want to watch. It’s not as simple as selecting it in the guide.
NEW, UPDATED VERSION SHOWS NO IMPROVEMENT - IT DOESN’T WORK, PERIOD!
Doesn’t show local channels even if you try to “jump” to them. When in “Guide” mode, if you select a program, it goes to the “info” screen for a different program! And if you try to play either it doesn’t work! The screen is laid out poorly, with no apparent logic. Simplify it! Get rid of “Live on iPad” category and just select from the “Guide”! If I had known this app doesn’t work, I never would have switched from DISH! The DISH iPad app works flawlessly! At this late date, there is just no excuse! Better hire someone who knows how to write applications that work!
