A 2nd Gen Historic Collectible, but Should Add MFi and Orientation Fixes
A Beautiful Collector's and Atari Gamer's Treasure compete with many games, manuals, and documents at a great value. At face value, it's also slickly designed with a hardware-collector-style interface and a lot of difficulty/mode/control options. And at the core, the emulations are near-perfect. But it needs to work better without having to rotate the device frequently while using the app and should have MFi Wireless Controller support.
Now, allow me to talk about the rotation issues. The app design requires you to frequently rotate the device: Some games are in Portrait; most I've played are in Landscape. The game-select interface is always portrait: This should support landscape like most of the games to allow a stationary / docked device. Apple TV supports mirroring with this title limitedly. The trouble is the device, control centers, and Apple TV acts like it is in Portrait View when this app is running even when it is rotated. A workaround 'fix' for this is double-press your home key to multitask the app and then re-select it. I had that correct the orientation to landscape on Apple TV.
I tried submitting my ideas on Atari's site instead, but the form didn't confirm my submission. Atari: Keep Brining Atari Classics into the Modern Era !!
Still no MFi controller support!?
Still no MFi controller support? For shame!
While this collection contains a lot of great titles and spans a very large portion of Atari's arcade and 2600 library, and the emulation of these titles is excellent, I'm still fairly disappointed that as updates continue to roll out, MFi controller support has been ignored.
Let's think about this: these are games that were originally designed with physical controllers in mind. Now, if you don't have a MFi controller for your device, the on-screen controls are serviceable, but it's just not the way these games were intended to be played. For owners of MFi controllers, this is extremely frustrating because the ability to write apps to target these controllers has been available for quite some time. Without physical controller support, I'm afraid this app just doesn't live up to the full potential that it would otherwise enjoy.
Atari 2600 AND Arcade too .... Kewl
Hey I'm updating my review why don't you update the review with some new titles. You know like Pole Position or some of the Homebrews, pleaseeeeeee?
I'm not sure why all the complaining. I use my Bluetooth 8bitdo FC30 and control is great. Graphics, feel, it's all there. If I had to complain I'd ask why no Landscape? I mean I kinda understand Portrait for the arcade versions, but the 2600 games were on our home TVs!
I understand some titles are missing, but there are several obscure ones there too.
And then there's always the Activision collection.
