They should add E.T. to this
just for the curiosity value. They’d have to change the name to Atari’s Greatest Hits and Biggest Bomb. I bought this when it came out, along with an iCade controller. The iCade controller didn’t handle very well, so I gave it away. A shame, since I like to play Adventure every once in awhile, and the on-screen controls are pretty bad (as of 2017). As others have mentioned, MFi controller support would be great. I guess that it would be too hard for them to support it.
I recently gave Tempest a try on my iPhone 7+. It’s awesome! Probably the best controller implementation since the arcade. I’m also enjoying the trackball games (Missile Command, Centipede, Millipede and Crystal Castles). I’ve NEVER enjoyed them on any other platform (since the arcade) but on an iPad Pro they come back to life. The iPad Pro was made for trackball game emulation. I’ve never wished for Marble Madness, knowing that the controls would be bad - but maybe now is the time for it. But the lack of MFi controller support is a glaring omission for games like Black Widow and Space Duel, which had dual stick controls in the arcade.
I have to give Atari props on continuing to support this game. I was surprised that it survived the 32 bit apocalypse. I hope the give it a little move love in the future with MFi controller support, along with the addition of more games.
Love all the games
I read some of the reviews, most of the negative ones were from last year. Atari fixed the problems. I paid for all the games and have found no problems. The 2600 controls you have to get use to but they have various ways to control. The arcade games are great. Centipede and Millipede, are as smooth as the actual coin op versions. The roller ball is so smooth you almost believe it is a real rollerball as on the arcade. If your an Atari fan as I am, this is a must download now. Everything works great and it takes me back when games were fun!
Since several iOS updates, for some reason some of the 2600 games crash as soon as it starts. One game for sure crashes is the 2600 centipede. All of the arcade games still work perfectly. I have this on my iPad and I do not have any problems with any of the 2600 games crashing. Seem to only be on the iPhone. I would like to see you fix this.
Still no MFi controller support!?
Still no MFi controller support? For shame!
While this collection contains a lot of great titles and spans a very large portion of Atari's arcade and 2600 library, and the emulation of these titles is excellent, I'm still fairly disappointed that as updates continue to roll out, MFi controller support has been ignored.
Let's think about this: these are games that were originally designed with physical controllers in mind. Now, if you don't have a MFi controller for your device, the on-screen controls are serviceable, but it's just not the way these games were intended to be played. For owners of MFi controllers, this is extremely frustrating because the ability to write apps to target these controllers has been available for quite some time. Without physical controller support, I'm afraid this app just doesn't live up to the full potential that it would otherwise enjoy.
