When it worked...

UPDATE: Reading another review that also indicated the descrepancy between App Store and website verisons, I download the trial from the website after writing the below review. It immediately opened, told me my license was transfered, asked me to close the running instance, and moved the new version to the application folder. Opening the new version and it worked immediately. A good sign but I'm not holding much hope. I'm also still pretty chapped that there is no support. I am increasing my rating to 2 stars but will drop it back to 1 if it fails in less than 2 months.

I downloaded the free trial and used it through expiration and was really impressed. It worked great every time. I built an entire library of snippets. I pulled some from Text Expander and built a whole bunch more. After the trial, I decided to purchase from the app store. I used it for about 2 days and all was well. Then, for seemingly no reason it stopped working. I am no longer able to create new snippets or edit existing snippets. It seems to be expanding snippets fairly reliably with only a few crashes here and there but with out the ability to add or edit, its unusable. I reached out to the developer by email about 2 weeks ago and have not heard back. I have obviously rebooted, updated, updated other software and done normal troubleshooting. No dice. So, every week I open it now to check and see if it works and it doesn't.

best text expander for Mac

I've tried a lot, and this is the best as well as one of the least expensive.
Also works great in parallels.
Remember you have to go to the website to download the "non-sandboxed" version. I dunno what that is, but works when you do that.

Second look. What’s not to like! Grab the non-sandboxed version!!

I tried this a long time ago and was frustrated with inconsistent perormance.

Forget all that. The developer is refressingly honest, says sandboxing is a royal pain for some apps (he’s in good company).
SO—just go ahead and get the inexpensive version from his web site (NOT sandboxed). 21 day free trial. Only 4.95.

I was able to use my previous App Store version to authenticate the web site version, saving my small investment already made.

Take a little time to learn how to configure it (very flexible).
Can also do scripts and images.
Don’t forget to hit the Apply button as needed.

And you can save your configurations.

Have no idea why someone complained about iOS.

BTW — I was just plain tired of my old text expander. It kept popping up with a offer for paid upgrades.
And those with subscriptions? Forget about it.

Be sure to quit any other text expander to avoid conflict.
Also no need to use System Keyboard shortcuts, so just delete them too.
(Unless you’re wedded to them and they don’t conflict.)

Works well, good price, no subscription, no hounding for paid upgrades.
Exchange the price of a fancy latte for a real time saver.
