2011 APPY Award Finalist

“All I can say is WOW and double WOW! I have had Audubon Birds for a couple of years and have seen it grow into the BEST bird app for iOS! ...I am just blown away with all the new additions. My favorite is showing all the birds in a group (thumbnails) and when tapped lightly the name shows up. What a way to learn new birds. I just cannot express how much I love the update. Thank you…” - E Uhls

Customer Reviews

Great app! Everything I was looking for.

This is a great app. I've been using the Merlin Bird ID app to figure out what birds visit my backyard, but regardless of how many sightings I added I couldn't figure out how to access a list of my sightings. This app is perfect because I can track my sightings, go back and review what I've seen, AND it has a wealth of information on each bird. Everything about this app has exceeded my expectations, and the fact I can use my iPad and iPhone depending on the situation plus be able to access my whole lists of birds on either device is another bonus.

Useful but ...

On iPhone 5s, many sounds won't play - usually first ones listed. Really frustrating.

Excellent similar species-by-appearance, good species info. Search is limited to spp name so combine this with Cornell's Merlin app for unknown spp until Audubon develops search-by-shape/size/color/sound/habitat.

Suggestions: add filtering (e.g., "likely birds in New England wetlands" and test/improve sounds. I've had problems with songs in this app not playing on all my devices (all Apple/iOs though) with all the versions I've had over several years, reboots, & reinstalls, so it's probably not me or my devices...

Sound Keeps Disappearing

A guide such as this isn't much good if the audio portion doesn't work. I was trying to confirm an ovenbird and realized that for some reason the sound was no longer enabled, so I re-downloaded the app when I got back to my computer and went through the bother of retrieving my password and signing in again. But at least it worked. Then the other day we were trying to decide whether we were hearing a scarlet or a summer tanager, and again no sound. I later discovered that it will play some of the songs of the selected bird but not always all of them. I'll have to find a more reliable app than this one.
