Customer Reviews

App is getting worse with each version.

Green Mountain Digital has fixed all the past problems with this app and I couldn't be happier with it! This app was the "killer app" that convinced me to buy an iphone & I can easily say it is again fulfilling that role.

I really like how the lists are handled, adding sightings to a life list is now very easy. This app makes it really easy to identify new species and keep track of what you have seen. It's indispensable for the casual to moderately-serious birder or naturalist!

Two minor quibbles: taking a photo to use in a sighting without cell service leads to the photo disappearing entirely. The workaround is to save the photo to your camera roll first & add the sighting later. Second quibble is that I wish that the number of items in a list was written somewhere while reviewing the list (I like to keep track of my life list for birds). Right now to only way to find the number of items in a list is to start a new sighting and bring up the List dialog, see how many are on the list, and then cancel the sighting addition.

From So So to Worse!

I was probably one of the first to purchase this app many years ago. Unfortunately, I have to agree with all of the negative things posted on the other reviews...including attempts to download and install the latest update. Since it's release, after ten or so attempts, it says it is "waiting". Really, it is doing nothing, regardless of what I do. I've stopped short of attempting to uninstall and reinstall because I'm not sure if I will lose all of my sightings. I don't think I will but need to research it. When it was working, it was difficult and slow to use....simply because of it's shear size, I believe. Since it combines all of the same apps that are also offered individually, I would recommend just buying them separately. Far less frustration and they will work much better for you.

Won't search based on your location

I'm a retired biologist and was quite disappointed in the app. If you already know what you're looking at the apps will give you information but if you don't know, good luck identifying an unknown species. e-bird, a sub-app under birds, does consider your location, but only works if you are logged in with wifi which, of course, you aren't when you're in the field. You can't even set a region and have it stick for more than one search. The app asks for permission to let the developer know where you are but then won't let you use current location to find out what is there.

The pictures are nice but not particularly useful in differentiating between closely related or similar species.
