For anyone remotely interested in what the iPad and iPhone can do for music creation, Aurora’s probably the best thing you can buy.

MusicTech Magazine
A powerful and flexible composition tool that’s even plausible as a small-scale production suite.

Review from Australia
I can't begin to tell you how much I love this program... I have to stop myself using it in bed because it just keeps me up all night.

I have bought almost all the iPad music apps I could find and Aurora is by far the most innovative and the best! On top of that, no other I have found lets me get right into the sounds like Aurora.

Music Radar
A truly inspiring production environment. If you're an iPad owner in the market for a portable production tool, you definitely won't want to pass this one up.

Simply awesome, I thought the iPhone version was great, but this is in another league.

Really quite brilliant!

I picked this app up on a whim, spent the weekend creating sounds, and exploring. As just about everyone has stated this is a "deep app". There are many layers and possibilities here and I could not be more pleased with this purchase. I started programming synths in the monophonic days of the Korg MS10 and while this app is so much more refined it reminds me of the fun I used to have creating. The sound quality is excellent and the filtering and manipulation of the signaling really makes this a "stand out" application for the IPad. If you are looking for a quick production tool there maybe cheaper, faster solutions, (I have every one of them just about) but if you are looking for a true creative tool for sound and pattern creation then this is it. Take a couple days to learn it, read the manual, and then see the fantastic possibilities in Aurora Sound Studio. This is a thinking musicians tool, don't get mad if you don't understand it right out of the gate, learn it, you won't regret it. I look forward to further development of this app!

Goes way beyond the hardware and software alternatives

This is a great app for those who might have toyed with the idea of a certain other device (which I also own). Having used both now I can honestly say this software goes way beyond the original concept in terms of functionality and scope of sound. It might seem expensive, but worth every penny when you consider the alternative!

Aurora works by creating musical loops and chaining them together, which is a very intuitive way to work. The software is pretty easy to use (once you master the basics), has a good help facility and very stable (no crashes yet). The real fun comes when once you switch to advanced mode. Advanced mode gives you full access to instrument creation, layer automation etc. which are hidden away in basic mode (novice users).

The program includes a Drum Machine and Sampler which allow importing of your own samples or recording via the microphone, a very tweakable Synthesizer which is great for creating 80's synth sounds, and a Pad Synth for creating more realistic string and organ type sounds. Just assign an instrument that is roughly the sound you want, then tweak it till it matches your requirements. This means you are no longer limited by the presets.

Some of the more advanced features take some time to master, but well worth the effort. The full screen mixer, effects rack, layer mix, combined synth layouts etc. make this so much more useable than the iPhone version.

Different is inspiring

I have used and will continue to use Nanostudio for most of my music composition on the iPad. But this is growing on me. At first blush I thought is was a grossly overpriced toy, but then I begin to dig. The more I learn, the more I like. I gave four stars because it is opening new musical ideas for me. But there are things I don't like.

You a can add your own samples, but you cannot add folders. So if you want to bring a few gigs of samples over to Aurora, you will end up with a useless list of thousands of samples in one folder. There a crashes, and I am not used to crashes on iOS. I also wish the inboard synth was a little more robust (like Eden in Nanostudio). The is a pretty steep learning curve if you are coming from traditional DAW's.

All of that said, it is good. I do hope for continued development, it has the makings of a cult classic, if not more.
