This is Dr. Gary Brown’s Autism/DTT Shapes App. This app uses Discrete Trial Training (DTT) to help your child learn the basic shapes. DTT is the primary teaching method used in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to teach numerous pre-academic and social skills to children with autism. This app can be used to help teach the basic shapes to children with autism, attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), or any child who has trouble staying on task.
Children using this app will be able to learn the shapes in English, French, Norwegian or Spanish by taking a flash card like quiz. Other language packs will be added soon! (Note, the startup and config screens of the app are currently in English only.)
Finding the right therapy for a child on the autism spectrum can be overwhelming. Only Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has years of scientific research proving its effectiveness and is recommended by The National Institute of Mental Health and the Surgeon General. But caregivers quickly learn that well-trained therapists in ABA are expensive and hard to find. During Dr. Brown’s forty years of clinical experience as a Licensed Psychologist he has tried to provide low-cost ABA resources for caregivers so they can do their own ABA. ABA and DTT increases your child's likelihood of being mainstreamed, increases happiness, and gives you hope.
This DTT App for teaching shapes is fully automated and has been tested with children with autism at The Children's Treatment Center. This app is designed to be very simple with no distracting stimuli because children with autism (and other disorders) are easily distracted. This app is not designed to be a general purpose game, but rather a clinically tested training approach for children with a specific type of learning disability.

Ratings and Reviews
This app is AMAZING!!!
I have a 2 1/2 year old autistic girl and nothing would get through to her. We tried cards with verbal commands and she just wasn't interested so we underestimated her capability. Once we were able to invest in an iPad, we realized that she wasn't captivated enough to perform tasks. I had heard about these DTT apps and decided to start with shapes and see where that got us. She went from an average of 30% success with cards to 60% on the first try on the iPad. It's proven to be a valuable tool when working with her and I highly recommend it to anyone that's having difficulty teaching shapes!!!
Great app for shapes
This app is great for teaching shapes. You can start out contrasting two shapes, and work up more as the child is able. You can make is as simple or a complicated as needed. It includes basic shapes as well as 3 dimensional shapes. Just wish the voice sounded a little more natural.
Super app for Special needs students
I've been using the Autism shapes and Autism Colors app for a couple weeks now with my speech therapy students. What I enjoy most about this app is that you can modify and choose the level of difficulty the items will be presented to the students. For example if you wanted to only target teaching 2- 3 shapes, you can modify the program to use only that information with that student. The program gives great positive reinforcers which helps to keep my student's attention. I look forward from more apps coming from this company.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
