Although the information on the left states that this app is available in all languages, it is only presented in English.

Buddy Bear products have a huge following among speech-language pathologists and early interventionists for the proven techniques they use to improve communication skills in children with autism spectrum disorders. Use Buddy Bear to practice grammar skills and develop joint attention, reciprocity, and early language.

The app has five stories. Each story features one of these grammar forms:
•Present progressive verbs—e.g., kicking, riding, and more
•Regular past tense verbs—e.g., climbed, jumped, and more
•Regular plural nouns—e.g., flowers, candles, and more
•Personal pronouns—e.g., he, she, they
•Negation—e.g., is not

The successful learning format includes:
•simple, predictable language
•uncluttered illustrations
•reassuring audio narration
•open-ended responses
•engaging animation and sound effects

The answer format is multiple-choice with an easy one-tap or touch-and-drag response. Correct responses are reinforced with lively animation and sound effects, and an audio narration of the proper grammar form.

Not great

Grammar lite

I downloaded the lite version and liked the areas of grammar it addressed. I wasn't too crazy about the graphics. I decided to buy the full version for $15. What a waste! The negation activity only have seven trials. There are no options to create a player list or to change the way the activity is presented (I.e. multiple choice vs. open ended). At least with Super Duper apps, I can add players, it keeps track of their scores, it offers ways to modify the activities and it gives more trial items (and for $2!!!). Guess I just expected more.

Need to address impulsivity

These apps are designed to be used with Autistic children, unfortunately, the answer selection appears at the same time as the question. Children who have difficulty with impulsivity usually make a selection BEFORE the question is asked. It would be helpful if all the Buddy Bear apps had a delay for the answer selection.

It's ok.

Where is regular present tense? Why overdoing the "is verbing"? I don't know. There should be an opportunity to answer before the answer is modeled. Or a, "That's right, now you say it." type response. I could rework this app in so many ways to make it more versatile useful. Right now I find myself shutting off the volume and speaking myself to get the prompt correct.
