Autodesk SketchBook is the drawing app made for those who include sketching as part of their daily routine, from creative professionals to aspiring artists. With SketchBook, drawing and painting on your iPad or iPhone feels like a natural creative experience. SketchBook's powerful brush engine has over 170 customizable brushes, which perform exactly as you expect. Ink feels fluid and smooth, synthetic brushes blend colors in a natural way, and texture brushes mimic natural media.
The SketchBook drawing and rendering engine was designed to use the full computing power of every iOS device, especially the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil. SketchBook now features a maximum canvas size up to 100 mpx, unlimited* layers, more than 170 customizable brushes, and an even smoother experience when drawing with the Apple Pencil.
SketchBook is made to let you easily access powerful drawing tools, without creating a cluttered workspace. SketchBook has a full screen mode, called the Rapid UI mode, which hides all interface elements, for the largest possible workspace on your iPad or iPhone. While working in Rapid UI mode, you can pull up the brush, layer, and color editors, simply by swiping your non-dominant thumb, along the edge of the screen. Make a selection in the menu with your drawing hand, then lift your thumb to make the entire interface disappear.
Some of the common drawing controls require almost no interface. To access common elements, like the Color Picker, Eraser, Flip Canvas, Last Brush, and Double Puck, tap the translucent circle at the bottom of the canvas and make a selection. As you gain muscle-memory for these tools, simply tap-and-flick in the direction of the tool you want to automatically select it.
Create perfectly symmetrical drawings with X, Y, X-Y, and radial symmetry tools. Reposition the line of symmetry anywhere on the canvas for precise control. Use up to 16 sectors of radial symmetry for precise radial sketches.
For professional line work and consistently precise lines, use the Predictive Stroke feature, one of the most popular features in the SketchBook desktop app. If you draw a line, Predictive Stroke makes your line straight. If you draw a basic shape, Predictive Stroke corrects your shape, creating precise circles, rectangles, and triangles. If you are drawing freehand and want to apply smoothing, Predictive Stroke will add the right amount of smoothing to curved lines.
Customizable ruler and ellipse tools allow artists and designers to place precise lines or elliptical shapes, such as circles in perspective, by adjusting the position, size, rotation, and aspect ratio of the drawing guides.
SketchBook opens and exports Photoshop documents (PSD files) natively, preserving layer names and blending modes for smooth interoperability with other software tools in your workflow.

*The Layer Stack isn't limited by the software. When creating a new drawing, SketchBook calculates the maximum layers based on canvas size and available device memory.
What's New in Version 4.1.1
We have addressed the following issues in this release:
For iPad users, when creating an account, there is no longer an issue with the app hanging after entering a new password.
For users trying to log in using Google+, we’ve added a fix to correct the login failure "Error: disallowed_useragent".
Very intuitive BUT...
I recently purchased and iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil to use for sketching ideas for painting and to display reference photos while painting. I purchased the top 5 sketchbook apps and have given them a try, Autodesk is my favorite so far and here's why:
The interface when you are sketching is very intuitive, especially if you've ever used a Wacom tablet before. It's easy and simple to adjust your brush settings mid-sketch. I was happy with my first sketch experience before purchasing the Pro version but I will say after purchasing it, you do get quite a lot of neat tools. Overall, creating in this app is a breeze and so much fun, I love it!
The "Gallery" interface where the sketches are stored needs to be improved, the menus and navigations don't make sense and I find myself getting frustrated.
My only other gripe is that you cannot use the multiple app feature while in this program. In most of the other sketchbook apps you can pull up a reference picture in Safari or your a Photos and draw while viewing it, but not in this one. If they could allow fully functioning multiple app use I wouldn't have a need or want for any of the other sketchbook apps.
I love this but one problem...
Everything works perfectly and I love how easy it is to control and the smooth drawing but there's only two things wrong, every time I double tap in the corner to undo it it draws on my drawing and I have to zoom out to make sure I don't mess it up. One more thing, once I create my picture and when I go to color it in, can you add a fill bucket? Because I have spent over 4 hours trying to color that SMALL picture without messing anything up, in corners I've gotta lower the size of the brush then when there's a big open space Instead of spending another 30 mins or so I have to turn it up and again and then back down, I mess up I have to do the redo button and then it messes it up more. So what I'm suggesting, can you please add the undo and redo button to the top with the other buttons and then add a fill bucket? It would be greatly appreciated, it's not much to ask but I can deal the undo and redo button but I can not be spending 3-5 hours trying to color in my whole painting when I can paint it in just a tap of a button. Thank you.
Hi autodesk team,
I am a long time user of the sketchbook app! I had it on my note 5, iPhone 6, 7, and iPad Pro. Recently I have been dealing with consistent crashing issues, I'll set the scene for you. I paste a picture using the import from gallery icon, then I accept it after I have resized it, I then go to change my utensils color from red to black. I click on the floating pill shaped icon and bring up the color wheel. I select the color and then I tap outside the color selection pop up. The app takes a second and then force closes. I really enjoy being able to draw on my tablet and I further enjoy being able to use autodesk, I am also familiar with the cad program that is also offered from autodesk. So being able to continue to diversify myself with more and more autodesk programs is enjoyable. Since my crashing issue I have resorted to using other illustration apps. I have a paid sketchbook app and this issue is really turning me off from this app. So please help me resolve this issue!
