B-cycle is a next-gen bike-sharing system. In layman’s terms: B-cycles are magic bikes that are there when you want one and gone when you don’t. Just swipe your card, grab a bike, and get to where you’re going.
With this app you can search for a B-station that is closest to you. Real time stats let you know whether there are available bikes or docks. You can also vote for your current location for the spot of a future B-station!
What's New in Version 2.0.1
Added the ability to select a program across the nation.
Modified text to better reflect specific kiosk traits.
Added support for iPhone 5.
Needs Intuitive Interface
So the problem with not loading locations until you select a program is dumb. But whatever, that's how the app functions, 1 star off for that.
You have to select program first to load the locations but it's at the bottom of the list and not prompted when you're in the middle of the Atlantic. The map should at the very least be disabled until the user selects a "program".
The main use for this app is to find a location after you've already rented out a bike and are worried about going overtime or wasting your half an hour. When you're in a rush, you're not going to press all the buttons until it works. You want to be able to open up the app. Tap the first thing prompted and then see the locations nearest you. I downloaded this in a hurry when I had 5 minutes left on my bikes. When I couldn't see any locations on the map, I closed the app and biked really fast to the closest one I knew about. Waste of a download.
This app somehow manages to be fundamentally less useful than a pile of garbage. Downloaded it for the map function but was sadly redirected over Tanzania, which by the way has some impeccable roadways but this led me to my second issue. The map function seems to rely on GPS permissions, which is normal, but does not have a toggle to recenter to the users location. As a result I had to scroll my way through Africa and over the Atlantic to discover no data points on the map even showing bike station locations. So really, it is just a map. A pile of garbage on the other hand may net one half a sandwich so +1 for the garbage!
I love Boulder Bike Share, it's awesome and you should join right now, but there is literally no redeemable quality of this app. Save maybe an errant geography lesson waiting to be gleaned?
One star for free lesson on the Tanzanian roadway system.
One star out of love for B-Cycle.
Please fix the maps!
I am not sure why the other reviewer had such a problem. I had no trouble at all going right to my exact location and finding the nearest B-cycle. The map shows you all of the stations. Just tap on the icon closest to you and it will tell you how many bikes are available and how many docking stations are open.
