Decent app, endless popups make it unusable
This is a PAID app for toddlers but there are constant popups for ratings and related apps which preclude a toddler from actually being able to independently explore the app. Every time we open the app, there is a request for ratings. So here it is. While we play, there are additional random popups to download related games. Inevitably a toddler will tap in the giant popup window which occupies the whole screen rather than the minuscule "x" to close, thereby closing the game. I can understand if this is a free game, however I PAID for this app and am unable to use it.
The content itself is just fine. The actual photos of animals are quite good. However, there are a disproportionate amount of cartoons and unrecognizable charicatures which are confusing. Several animals have no associated sound. Finally the icons require a long tap and is slow to respond.
Overall, the popup windows on this paid app make it a dealbreaker for me.
Love at first play!
My 16 month old toddler fell in love with this game the first time she played it and she still loves it three months later. She prefers it over all cartoons, videos, and other forms of passive learning. As one who was skeptical about letting my toddler use any electronic device before two (as per the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation), I was surprised at the educational value of this game. My toddler recognizes the images and knows where to put them, but this game also taught her words that she didn't know. This game is great not only for vocabulary building, recognition, and matching using great interactive sounds and vibrantly colored images, it also has options for different languages. No complaints!
I 17-month-old niece really seems to like it. I showed it to her once we went through it together she caught on really quickly and can move through the app easily. I like the fact that it has photographs of real animals and other items to identify as well as more of the cartoon or drawing type. It's important to show a good balance of real and drawings of things so that they can be easily recognized in real life situations. If you only ever saw A drawing from a coloring book for example of a pig you won't necessarily know what a real pig looks like. Overall good app!
