Backup Buddy is a small backup application focused on simplicity and ease of use. It bridges the gap between Apple's Time Machine and complex full-featured backup solutions which have dozens of settings.
Just like Time Machine, Backup Buddy will create a chronological archive of your data, each time updating only the changes. But unlike Time Machine, in Backup Buddy you can control exactly what will be backed up as well as when and where the backup will occur. Also you can add multiple backups, each with a different destination.
You can also choose to automatically place your backup data inside a disk image file, which can be very useful in situations where you want to store your data on a network volume that is not Mac-formatted (an SMB server for example).
Some of the key features of Backup Buddy are:
Designed to be simple. No complicated settings; we make all the hard decisions for you.
Gives you full control over the really important stuff: choosing what you want to backup, where you want to save your backup, and when you want the backup to occur.
Creates chronological backups by using hard links to save disk space, just like Apple's Time Machine.
Can save your data inside a disk image, making it easier to safely store your data on non-Mac network volumes.
* Please note that Backup Buddy conforms to Apple's sandboxing guidelines. Therefore, it cannot backup system files, only your personal data.
What's New in Version 1.0.3
DOES NOT WORK WITH THE LATEST MAC OS!
The program will run for a few hours, then give an error and freeze your operating system. Worse that a terrible program, will not only NOT backup your data, but will freeze your computer.
so i’m running latest mac hw, latest mac os and this works fine and dandy. no issues at present.
in reference to my favorite bug tracking software
as for stars, i never give 5, there’s always room for improvement *always*
with that said, software & backup works as advertised
Simple sync program
This app is a simple sync program that can be set to sync at chosen intervals. It is advertised as a backup program similar to Time Machine only with selective settings. A true time machine-like backup would compress the files it backs up to conserve space. This program does not do any sort of compression. It is simply a copy/sync program that you could easily script yourself.
I would not recommend the app because it does not compress the files to make a true backup.
