The 2014 Bahamas Pilot’s Guide is unbelievably beautiful and a great tool on the iPad. (If you like the book . . . you’re gonna love the iPad app.) The photos are stunning. The search feature lets you easily find what you’re looking for. The searchable index lets you run down through the island chains to find the island or airport you want. The bookmark feature lets you keep track of your favorites. The Bahamas Pilot’s Guide app is a beautiful presentation of this well-known and widely used publication.
The Bahamas Pilot’s Guide has been updated and published every year since 1979. After more than 35 years in print, the Bahamas Pilot’s Guide remains the only single-source reference for island travel. The Guide has complete airport information for the entire Bahamas region, as well as island and travel information. Sections include General information and procedures, Islands of the Bahamas, United States (Florida Airports of Entry) and Survival.
The Pilot’s Guide is packed full of color photos, including an aerial photo of every airport in the Bahamas. There are phone numbers for airport managers, Customs & Immigration, resorts and services. Included are frequencies, fuel availability, procedures, and so much more to help you plan, prepare for and enjoy your trip. The Bahamas Pilot’s Guide is the one resource that pilots have been relying on for over 35 years for aviation travel in the islands.
App is brutal
While the information is very useful, the app is so frustrating to use that it is nearly unusable. The buttons on the top are nearly completely wasted, only one is helpful. Want quick access to the map? Me too, and I haven't found it. Flipping between pages requires some mix of ancient prayer and manual dexterity that I haven't mastered after two weeks. I am still surprised when the page finally turns about one every ten tries. Don't waste your money on the app, go with paper.
Hard to navigate
Difficult to change pages, pages get stuck halfway across, scroll bar too sensitive, clicking on map does not take you to that section of book like they say it should, it's ok if you use the index and you know where you want to go but not to browse for a new destination, paper is better for that.
While the information is somewhat useful, getting to it is impossible. How could they have not included the ability to "swipe" between pages? Trying to move the slider on the bottom results in the app jumping numerous pages. Would be more useful as simple PDF.
