I never wrote an ap so I don't know what it involves. Don't understand why some say it works, others not. Some fast, some slow. On my iPhone 4S it opened fine. It was done with the scan before I even lined it up. It went to the correct web site. I wanted email the link to myself to open on my laptop. The direct send to email reproducibly crashed. Howeve, it did allow me to open the link in safari. From there, of course sending email worked. Thus, I did accomplish what I wanted. Thus, I give it a 4 rating. After all, it is free. Keep trying to find and fix reported bugs!
I tried six random items around the house to scan. First one worked great (white castle burgers ). But it failed on all the rest. 3 of them wouldn't scan at all and the others it either didn't recognize or gave the wrong result. I scanned a pint of Hagen Daz and it thought it was a shower curtain. I scanned the blu-ray set for back to the future - something you'd think would be a popular, mainstream item - and it didn't recognize it. So it seems pretty useless. I'm not sure if the positive reviews are from people who successfully scanned just one item and decided it was "awesome" or just got really lucky. But my experience of 1 out of 6 is fairly abysmal. Don't bother, try another scanner!
It does scan well and with most items. The only thing that I suggest with the barcode scanner is that the price needs to be on the same page as the store locater; list the store name, then to the right list the price. We shouldn't have to be flipping back and forth between each store to see a price which can be frustrating. Instead we should be able to scroll through each store with the price already showing.
