I'm a network professional and have over two decades of experience installing computer equipment in datacenters, offices, etc so I'd like to think I know what I'm doing an it comes to networking and computers in general. I have a home network with 5 Unifi AP Pro access points so I know I have great coverage inside and outside my property. The Wi-Fi module in this spa (created by the Balboa group?) works intermittently at best and constantly disconnects from my network for no reason at all. I have another outdoor speaker receiver located 30 feet behind the spa that connects without problems at all! The customer service is instructed to inform customers to un-install the app to fix the issue?! What the heck is that, I'll tell you what it is - it's a company that could care less that they charge their customers MORE MONEY for the wifi module however they don't tell you it will only work 15% of the time if at all! This is a joke and I could see them getting away with it if it were 2006 but it's now 2018 and my swim spa cost over $20k so I fully expect this feature to work!! The whole wireless thing is a joke and the sad part is there is nothing I can do except write this review on the app because it's such a horrible experience.
Worst waste of money ever
I replaced my entire spa pack just for this functionality. Never works correctly and I am a network professional. I have a $7000 ruckus wireless network that it refuses to work on. Also refuses to work on any of the cheap routers I have tried just in case my network was "too good" for it. I've sent it back to Balboa (I paid shipping). They told me it was fine and shipped it back (after I paid the shipping AGAIN). Then I fought with the vendor I purchased it from and they sent me a brand new one and this one doesn't work either. Everyone tries to make me feel like I'm an idiot and making a mistake. The only mistake is buying this hunk of junk. Anyone who wrote a good review is either a shill for the company or just hasn't had it installed long enough and by now is regretting their review. This thing is garbage and I have spent over a year trying to get it correct. Multiple calls and emails to balboa and my vendor. This is a piece of junk and you will never be happy with it, I will NEVER recommend Balboa anything ever again. This experience has soured my opinion of them in every way. They took me for about $1000 on my spa pak and this and that is the last $1000 of mine they will ever see.
As unfriendly as the control unit on spa
I had the wifi module installed after I bought the spa not for controlling my spa from afar but because the Balboa 600 control panel on my Clearwater Spa has such an archaic menu system that it might as well been the control panel for Chernobyl. I figured an iPhone app had to be pretty intuitive. Boy, was I wrong... Note, I haven't even tried to connect to my home network. Someday I might, but given the "direct" connect results thus far, probably not. So, wifi module boots up, I load Balboa app, I connect iPhone wifi directly to module - no problem thus far. I tap on "Controls" and nothing. No icons for pumps or lights, just a blank screen. I tap on Settings and it's all there. I try to tap control from high heat to Rest / low heat and the icon won't switch. It moves but then bounces back to high heat. I go and set filter times and save. I go back into filter settings and no settings are saved. If the app doesn't work in direct connect mode, I suspect it doesn't work over the internet let all be struggling to connect to home network as many have complained about here. Worst app on the App Store. Please pay a competent third party to rewrite and test the app.
