Paper take notice...
Paper was the pioneer and gave us an incredibly simple interface for sketching on the ipad. This is obviously a direct rip-off but with some noticeable improvements that are hard to ignore.
-tools are almost identical but somehow more responsive??
- the lined paper options are great
- nice to have crayons
- finally able to change my tool size
I truly miss:
- flipping the page is still better in Paper as is pinching to zoom and move pages around
- moleskin theme is hard not to love in Paper
- zoom is better in Paper
- the paint mixer is so amazing in Paper
Overall Paper is still closest to a natural sketchbook experience and I love it but I'll be watching this one. It's good in so many ways!
It's highly unlikely but if Wacom add Adonit Jot Touch support to this app I'll buy all the extras and won't look back. The Wacom Creative stylus is OK but expensive and I prefer the more precise tip of the adonit jot touch. As a daily Wacom user for the last 20 years I'm surprised they didn't get this right!
Paper hasn't added new features very quickly and they don't support any relevant styluses aside from their own which isn't pressure sensitive. Nobody likes a black box.
Not a convert yet but man is this the best response yet to Paper. Well done Wacom.
Great for Artists - Needs a few tweaks
Bought this with the Wacom Intuos Creative Stylus for my daughter because she loves drawing.
She was frustrated that the notebooks didn’t come in landscape mode. We use the work around of locking the orientation of the iPad so she can draw in landscape mode, but it would be nice to have custom page presets for different ratios.
I also found it frustrating to thumb thru her journals and not damage the artwork. I guess you have to swipe along the bottom. Maybe a kid version of this app, or better safe controls would keep me from destroying her sketches by accident.
Since this is her first stylus, it seems like better reporting of how well the Stylus is working would help. A list of supported apps that now support the stylus would help. Bluetooth pairing, battery strength in more detail would help troubleshoot.
Share choice leaves out Apple Message. Please add it. Doesn’t appear to be an iCloud or DropBox sync support, or if it is there I didn’t see it.
Love letter to a Bamboo Paper
My favorite app, hands down: I use Bamboo Paper professionally everyday developing sketches and quick wireframes. It had fully converted me to a digital sketcher. The dot-grid paper is perfect, selection of nibs, colors are appealing and I find them more precise than 53Paper.
I look forward to trying out the new Wacom stylus that pairs with the app. And I wish, nearly daily, for an iPhone version with cross-device syncing.
The new direct export-PDF-to-email function with multi-select pages is a lifesaver! It was top of my feature wish list, along with a better landscape mode.
It is very stable, I've never lost anything. And my pre-school sin uses it to draw as well—without help from me. We're quite the pair, drawing simultaneously on our iPads.
