Description

Banshee’s Last Cry is a thrilling visual novel that takes readers on a deadly thrill ride of murder and deception. Set in a snowed in hotel lodge during Christmas, vacationers find themselves caught up in a murderous “whodunit” game when someone winds up dead. Local legend tells of a banshee whose screams can rip through flesh, but, is the killer really a deadly monster or the work of a madman?

An inventive twist on the traditional novel, Banshee’s Last Cry allows readers to make decisions, each unlocking several unique stories and endings. Added to the mix is a soundtrack befitting of a thriller novel and images to set the mood.

Classic Visual Novel re-made for iPhone!

I've been eager to read this one for a long time. Now that it's finally translated into English by the wonderful people at Aksys I decided to check it out! So far it hasn't disappointed, it's heart pounding through and through and makes you question things at every turn. Must buy for fans of horror and murder mystery stories and any fan of interactive story telling. Highly recommend to fans of 999 and Virtue's Last Reward (both also brought over stateside by Aksys) Looking forward to more visual novels from you guys! It's a great medium for phones and other handhelds, I love reading them on the go! Thanks again for another great release Spike Chunsoft and Aksys! You guys are the dynamic duo of visual novels!

Edit: After completing the main story several more options are made available to you that weren't there before. These can completely change the story and add a lot of replay value. It's fun to go back and see how many different endings I can get. Some of them are actually hilarious weird and feel awesome to uncover.

Finally! But not what I expected

I have to say, it's been a long time coming- the original being one of the best sound novels out there, of course it was going to see some kind of translation, even if it took this long to do so. And if nothing else, this stays pretty true to the original. It follows the storyline so closely the Japanese walkthroughs fit this one fine.

However, like many others I'm not particularly excited about the localization. While I understand the need to do so to appeal to people who haven't even heard of the original, it wasn't quite the same. If you're going to offer the full story as an in-app purchase I'd appreciate being able to purchase a more literal translation the same way. One star off because of this (still a great work, so the other 4 stay, and I paid to show support for this kind of thing) and I'm not tossing the Japanese one off my iPad. (Speaking of which, not even carrying over my saves and stuff? Really?)

Well realized localization, much post-game content

People complain about changes made to the localization, but I thought they were fine. It's a situation where, without prior knowledge, no one would know it was adapted from a different culture (excepting joke endings). Admittedly, sickle weasels make more sense in their relevant cpntexts than banshees here, but what's lost is honestly very slight.
There is tons of extra content to see after completing the central mystery of the game, enough to fill another novel game! It plays off an off-kilter sense of humor glimpsed at from the main, mystery portion. You get a lot of 'sound novel' for your buck, here.
I'm very grateful to Aksys for putting together a wonderful, quality localization at a steal of a price.
