Description

The Basic Concepts app assesses comprehension of basic concepts in children from Pre-K to 1st grade.

This app is a great resource for clinicians, teachers, and parents, to establish a baseline knowledge of basic concepts. It is important to note that the app does not score students. Instead, it is designed to be used by the child and teacher together so that you can quickly see which concepts the student has already mastered and which concepts require additional reinforcement and repetition.

CONCEPTS INCLUDED
- Spatial concepts: in, on, up, down, under, in front, behind, in between, in the middle, near, far, etc.
- Quantitative concepts: whole, few, half, quarter, many, all, nothing, etc.
- Emotions: happy, sad, upset, angry, etc.
- Temporal: first, second, last, next, before, etc.
- Attributive concepts: same, colors, different, light, dark, big, small

Great start

I love love love how many different opportunities the kids are given to demonstrate the skill. I think there should be more feedback to show the kids when their answer is incorrect. A wrong buzzer sound draws their attention to a mistake more than just simply not allowing them to choose in correctly. My students respond more when they are shown they are incorrect and then given the chance to correct their answer. That instant feedback is an integral part of my therapy strategies.
Thank you for such a comprehensive view of these concepts. I think that I will definitively be incorporating it into my therapy to help my students.
I also loved the objects that can be manipulated. Being able to demonstrate instead of just choosing from a field is a great way to show complete understanding of a concept. Maybe offer different levels??? :)

Good idea

This app is an excellent start. The pictures of sheep are a little confusing. It was hard to clearly tell which sheep was going through and around the fence. I like the idea of the child moving objects above or below the line, etc. The wording for asking them to move things to the ground or in the sky was confusing. Maybe change that up a bit. I got this app for free. I would pay if it tracked the score and allowed a wrong answer. Right now nothing happens if you click on a wrong answer. It just waits for you to click on the correct one. It would be great if it allowed child to click on the wrong answer and tracked correct/incorrect responses for assessment purposes. Great idea that needs a little tweaking!

sup

This is a good app. Positive aspects include nice graphics, a variety of concepts by category, the "parental gate," and some interactive features (like move the balls to the left). It would be greatly improved by: adding data feature; allowing user to choose which concepts (so the user does not need to complete concepts that are already mastered); option to swipe to next one. Some confusing concepts: sheep around the fence does not look like "around"; baby with ball in front vs baby with rattle in front should say touch "toy" in front if teaching concept of "front"; Move ball above line worked when I put ball on the line; bugs were called "animals", etc. Great start to a useful app.
