Open the Mac App Store to buy and download apps.
Battery Guard tells you how long your battery will last! It is a fully featured, enhanced replacement for the battery tray icon that comes with your Mac.
Battery Guard shows the time left on your battery right next to its icon! If you'd rather show the percent charge, you can see that too.
Clicking on the icon opens a panel to quickly see loads of useful information about your MacBook's battery:
- charge level
- original capacity
- time remaining
It's FREE! No reason not to download it right now! Enjoy!
If you would like to get rid of the built-in battery monitor:
1) Go to System Preferences -> Energy Saver.
2) Uncheck the box at the bottom that says: "Show battery status in menu bar".
What's New in Version 1.1.1
- Bug fixes
- Now warns you when 10% of battery is remaining
- Compatible with OSX Mountain Lion
Some are reporting that this shows time remaining for the battery in the menu bar. One reviewer was thrilled that it brought that back in Mountain Lion. Well, in ML, if you click on the battery item in the menu bar, you'll see the time remaining. What I, and others, are looking for is something that shows the time IN THE menu bar, much as it did in Snow Leopard. This doesn't seem to do that at all.
Plus, it was off-putting to have an ad for Disk Cleaner when opening it the first time. Oh, well. Onto other battery programs…
I want to be fair, however, and have raised this a star. It does give you quick access to the buried power system information about one's battery-- original capacity, current charge, maximum charge, etc. It's convenient for that, but as that's something I rarely need, I just get it from the Apple menu and go into About this Mac.
Best battery app I've seen
I've tried a few battery apps. I prefer this one for its interface. The battery information is in a drop down menu from the menu bar (as opposed to a new window like in some other apps). One can also set the menubar's display settings to state percentage of battery left, or time left on battery. I would appreciate an update that enables one to remove the icon, and just display the time left / percentage charged.
The ONLY battery info menu app that works in 32-bit only Macs!
All the other menu app type battery monitors failed me because none of them work unless you have a 64-bit processor and my MacBook is the original that only sports 32-bit Intel... So this only single choice is not only the only battery app that will work on Macs like this, but it happens to be a good, useful program...
