January 1944. The German Army had their last toehold on the Dneiper River. This salient projected between two powerful Soviet army groups, the 1st and 2nd Ukrainian Fronts. Though weakened in their previous efforts against the Germans, on January 25th and 26th, these two powerful groups attacked and surrounded two German corps.
The Germans responded quickly to this threat, hurrying reinforcements from other sectors. Their relief drive made good initial progress, but stalled in the face of stiff Soviet resistance and both sides antagonist, "General Mud". In the end, the trapped Germans made a desperate breakout attempt from the pocket. Less than half of the encircled forces escaped the trap, with none of their heavy weapons or equipment.
Battle For Korsun is a simulation of these battles in January and February 1944. Players control the various German and Soviet forces which took part in these struggles. The Soviet player must coordinate the offensives of his Fronts to encircle the Germans quickly before the Germans powerful reinforcements arrive. The German player must form a pocket perimeter, then orchestrate his relief drive with his Panzer divisions to rescue their trapped comrades

Old school hex & counter strategy
Updated: 4-star Review downgraded to one star because I have not been able to get past turn three, it crashes during the AI turn every time. This is on an iPad Pro running the latest version. Please fix and I will be happy to change the review. As is, I feel like I want a refund.
Nice game on a Russian offensive in the late days of World War II on the Eastern front. The rules are simple but tight, and it certainly a challenging situation for the Germans. Units move and fight, although there is some fluidity, in that you can move a few units to attack and then follow up with other unmoved units to exploit the hole you create. Zones of control, step reduction in combat, advantages for armor versus infantry, multiple types of terrain, weather effects, Advance after combat, it’s all a pretty solid system, and I look forward to it being adopted to more east front battles. Good job!
A couple complaints and one request. The combat results window has type so small it cannot be read at all on a normal sized iPad; please enlarge. Also the AI animation should have an option to be slowed down, so you can get a better feel for what the AI is doing. Worse, it seems impossible to save games in the iOS version. I hit save, but when I return to load it, there’s no file there to load. Also it’s not clear if you can participate in the PBEM system with the iOS version of the game. If not, some option to play with other opponents online, Like GameCenter, would really really be appreciated. The AI is pretty good, but it’s always more fun to play another human player.
Crashes Every Time
I love this game ... until it crashes or freezes. So far, I’ve played it about a dozen times and this has happened each and every time. My device is an iPad with the latest software. Hopefully an update is on the way to fix these issues. If not, this was a waste of ten bucks.
