I love this app and think the developers did a phenomenal job with it. The layout is sleek and uncluttered, the app is easy to navigate and the budget area + alerts are very robust and helpful. I docked one star for three reasons: 1) there has been a longstanding bug where you can't make a mobile deposit of a check written from an internal (BECU) account. So if you have a spouse or friend or family member who needs to write you a check from their own BECU account you won't be able to deposit it on mobile. (Apparently the software reads it as a deposit slip, and errors out). This has been going on for months with no fix. The second issue is not being able to separate a business and personal account from the budget area. This is kind of a no-brainer, as business income/expenses and personal income/expenses should always be separate. The final issue is the budget always defaulting to the past 30 days. It should default to the calendar month, as that's how most people do their budgets. It's easy enough to tap at the top and select the range, but it's kind of a pain to have to do this every time. Those three issues aside, I think it's a fantastic app, and it's clear they worked hard on its development. Thanks BECU!
I honestly don't understand all these 4 & 5 star reviews. I'm a member at BECU as well as another credit union and other financial institutions. Yes, you can see your account balances and do transfers and (sometimes) deposit a check, but that's where the usefulness of this app ends.
What drives me the most nuts: 1) Do you have any loans with BECU (credit cards, auto loans, personal loans, etc.)? That's nice. You can see your current balance and transactions, but you aren't able to see what your payment information is (minimum due, due date, sort transactions to see payments made, etc.) 2) The touch ID works about 70% of the time, but it will randomly just forget or reset itself. I don't have this I issue with any of my other apps set for this, even when they update. 3) The photo check deposit works about 50% of the time. It is really tricky to try and get it lined up where the app reads the information (the "outline" provided doesn't really work).
I've actually had conversations with other members who have the same issues. Yes, the app looks very pretty, but the limited functionality of it makes it less useful than my other similar apps.
Great app, only missing a couple things
Overall the app is really smooth, clean, and easy to use. There's an amusing budgeting tool which lets you throw your budget bubbles around. It's a nice little thing that makes the app a little fun.
My only complaint is a lack of security options, and slow fade ins.
The transitions between screens, when you tap on an icon, enter/leave a menu, and go back are a little slow. It's a slow fade in transition that occurs every time you change menus. It's a minor irritation, but there nonetheless.
The other issue is the lack of obvious security options, i.e. Logging out after switching off the with multitasking, an inactivity logout after a certain amount of time, options to only connect over wifi or only allow connections over select wifi networks, etc.
The most important one that is missing is the ability to turn off plaintext password displaying. While typing a password it shows your most recent entered keystroke as a number or letter for a small amount of time before showing as a black dot. This one seems like it should be pretty obvious not to do.
Most of these options would just make security on the app more convenient, and are not completely necessary to using the app securely, they just make it more difficult.
Overall great app, I'd give it 4.5/5 if I could, the only issues are slow transitions between screens and a lack of either security options, or lack of an easy way to find security options.
