Customer Reviews

Looking for a new puzzle game to play :(

As many of the reviewers have said, I've been playing Bejeweled for years, and used to love it to death until I bought a new phone and had to download the new app. The adds are extremely intrusive, to the point of interrupting your game every minute or so to pop a window asking you to go to the app store and buy more games. I know, paying $2.99 to remove the adds is not horrible, but we have to admit that it is on the expensive side compared to other games, and I'm not sure sure Bejeweled is totally worth it (specially because it is not the only puzzle game out there, and you still can get a few of the others for free). In conclusion, I'm totally disappointed with the new app, and since I don't have a backup of the old one (the one that was really free), I have decided to delete Bejeweled from my phone. This is sad, because I love the game, but I'm still mad at the fact that PopCap tends to turn really good games into the most annoying ones, some of them by changing the game entirely (like Zuma), and some of them by charging for every little thing (like when they added Poker to Bejeweled, and charged for it, and then, decided to put adds in the game and charge to remove them. It wouldn't surprise me if, in the near future, they start charging for each of the different games inside Bejeweled).

Bejeweled classic with some extra bells and whistles

I downloaded this app to test the processing power of my phone versus my laptop (my laptop cannot play music and Bejeweled simultaneously, my phone can. Huge buyer's remorse with that laptop, but I digress). When I downloaded the app, I was really just hoping for Bejeweled classic, but it came with a handful of extra game modes that I'm enjoying.
The app does feature ads, but it's a free app, so I'm not going to complain about them. They're pretty discreet, just hovering at the top of the screen, as do most of the ads with the other free apps out there and I've never felt they impeded my gameplay in any way. When you game over, you are sometimes provided with the option to watch an advertisement for an extra continue or more time, but you can decline these offers if you so wish. Granted, it does seem that sometimes they'll play an ad anyway if you choose to go back to the menu screen instead of replaying the game, but you can usually skip these after a few seconds or juke them out by going back to your home screen and then re-opening the app.

Used to be great; now the ads are too much

I've had Bejeweled for a long time, and never felt compelled to review it. I mean, it's a matching game. Nothing complicated, not a big deal. I used to love it and played it regularly, especially as they added new varieties of games. BUT, this latest version is too much. A Game Center splash screen is there, every time you open the app. I don't use Game Center, so this is profoundly annoying. It takes at least several tries to close the screen and get to the game menu. It used to be that you could continue a game after it ended (read: after you first lost) by an extra 30 seconds just by clicking a button. Now, you have to "earn" that 30-second bonus by watching an ad. No thank you. Plus, more ad pop-ups in between games if you play several games in a row. I understand the need to make money, but for pete's sake, don't be so intrusive about it.
