Are you looking for better control of the sound volume in OS X? BetterVolume is a replacement for the stock volume control that provides more granular control of the volume level.
BetterVolume allows you to use the shift key when changing the volume to adjust the volume in quarter-level increments. Also, it gives you the option to show the current volume as a number.
Here's how it works:
- Click on the menu bar icon, and adjust the volume by moving the slider up and down (just like the standard OS X control works)
- Click on the menu bar icon, and use the up and down arrows (again, just like the standard control works)
- Click on the menu bar icon, and use the up and down arrows while holding shift to increase or decrease the volume in quarter-level increments.
- Use the mute, volume up, or volume down global hotkeys to change the volume. Hold down shift to adjust the volume in quarter-level increments.
If your volume controls share the F10, F11, and F12 keys on your keyboard you can use the Wizard in BetterVolume to walk you through keeping your volume hotkeys the same. Or you can assign whichever hotkeys you wish.
Great job by Developer
I love the simplicity of this app and that it just gets its job done exactly as intended.
The one (extremely small) sacrifice I had to make to use this app was that to keep using the volume keys on my MacBook Air keyboard I had to change my Keyboard preference to use F-Key's instead of Apple Shortcut keys. Not a huge deal for me becuase the only other shortcuts I use are the brightness controls and I'm willing to change my behavior and use the function key. For people who are still on Mac Desktops or don't have a trackpad and use the shortcut keys more often (for Mission Control or iTunes Controls) may have a little harder time decideding how they want to go.
I am interested to see if the developer can improve on the feature set (who knows?) while keeping the footprint the same.
All in all this is perfect and does exactly what I was looking for, well worth the $4.
Great for background music!
I need my music to be soft while I'm working or else I get distracted, I usually have to turn down iTunes and then turn down the system volume as low as it gets and it's still not enough. This makes background music achievable!
THIS IS SO HELPFUL!
If you want the sound control of snowlepord or lepord back then you need this, just like lipord and snow lepord you can adjust your volium in ¼'s a feture removed in lion this is a very good application, you need it if you listen to music/edit music/edit videos like me.
