What's New in Version 3.7.6
This maintenance release improves reliability
Resource hog (after 7.1.1 update)
I ordered and installed this just one day prior to the iOS 7.1.1 update. After the update I noticed that the battery got sucked dry in hours. Before that, my battery never got below 80%. In addition to that, the battery got really hot … too hot to leave the phone unattended. This happened even though I had not yet launched this app or created an account for it!
Now, you might think that this is ridiculous, but I initially thought all my problems came from the iOS update. So, I totally wiped the phone and took it back to factory settings. Then, over the course of several hours, I rebuilt the phone with successive restores from back-ups stored on my computer (not iCloud). All was fine and there was no overheating or battery drain. Then I noticed that BillMinder had not been reinstalled. As soon as I reinstalled it, guess what … the battery percentage dropped almost immediately and the phone heated up. I deleted it - and the phone went back to normal! I agree … that’s totally weird. But I’m a seasoned techie and I am meticulous about restores and back-ups.
I don’t know if anyone else has had similar problems and I don’t know if this app was a resource hog prior to the last iOS update.
I used this app for a few years and thought it was great until I upgraded my phone. I was required to sign in to my account before I could use it after restoring everything from my backup. It kept telling me that my password wasn't right so I tried the "forgot password" option and it would say that an email had been sent so I could reset it but the email NEVER came. I tried many, many times. Then I tried the "email support" option to ask for help and NEVER got any response. I tried this several times. So now I have to start all over with another app. I had all of my account information, notes, confirmation numbers, payment information for at least 3 years stored in my account and now I can't get to any of it because the developers of this app have apparently abandoned their product. Don't lose your valuable information by entrusting it to this app like I did - they obviously couldn't care less.
Two Steps Forward, One Step Back
This is a solid upgrade from the original version. This is one of the most useful programs on my iPhone. I use it every month to track upcoming bills and payments, and I never miss a bill because of it. Very very good idea and very nicely done.
There are a couple of changes in the new version that I don't like as much, however:
Firstly, I don't like that the password is now limited to four numbers. I used to use a 6-digit password for security, but I can't do that any more. Far too many iPhone apps do this -- slavishly following the "four boxes" graphic of the password screen, which needlessly restricts the passcode to exactly four characters.
Second is that in adding an ability to apply multiple payments to one bill (a good idea, BTW) they changed the interface so that it is a lot more tapping to enter a single payment. It's not too bad, but it's definitely more cumbersome than previously.
Overall, however, it's a very good program, and I've no doubt I will be using it for a long time to come. Keep making improvements! :-)
