About the publisher
Birds in the Hand
The mission of Birds in the Hand is to support bird conservation and science through the eBird project. In addition to working hard to try to make the most advanced birding apps in the world that support and promote eBird, we also contribute a fraction of all of our sales to eBird and the Cornell Lab or Ornithology.
Launched in 2002 by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society, eBird provides rich data sources for basic information on bird abundances and distribution at a variety of spatial and temporal scales. eBird is a real-time, online checklist program that allows anyone to contribute their bird sightings to be viewed and used by other birders and scientists alike. eBird has revolutionized the way that the birding community reports and accesses information about birds.
Updated to work with the latest eBird API.
Ratings and Reviews
This is an excellent app for finding birding hotspots. It’s easy to use and is comprehensive. My only recommendation for improvement would be for the developers to improve the directions feature. As it stands, the directions sometimes takes you to the nearest section of the hotspot, which isn’t always the entrance to the site.
I checked out three areas I am familiar with in Connecticut, Colorado and California. There was a very nice list of each. It would be nice to have a place for a user input description- it simply lists places, not describing topography.
I do a lot of traveling, so his app is so helpful! I just open it up and immediately can see all the nearby hotspots. Then if your looking for a specific bird it is easy to find.
