Excellent book reader and support! - but needs a couple of fixes for High Sierra

High Sierra update

Looks like something is broken with how the inset text (pre/code) is rendered with the update to High Sierra. It is now running over into the next page and is a bit messy. Also, changing fonts no longer works. I would have written this on your support website, but I couldn’t find it so it’s easier to write it here.

Thank you for continuing to support this excellent app and I’ll update my review when these things get fixed.

The best book reader I’ve found on the Mac for ePubs! Great support from the author as well.

It provides what I need, simply and elegantly, then gets out of the way.

Thank you for continuing to support this app under Sierra.

Developer Response

Hi Raz, the support site is Please feel free to leave your feedbacks there. The issue you have described seems to be related to a book with fixed layout targeted for a specific device. These books may have some problems when you resize it. The fonts also can be changed unless it have been fixed by author. Some books have layout and font as subjects of copyright protection, so a third-party app couldn't change it.

Has Bugs that ruin Experience

I have been using this to read programming book so I switch back and forth alot. If you close the bookshelf and then completley quit the application the bookshelf will not launch automatically next load you have to press command L or open it in the menu way confusing when I click it am am waiting for it to launch because I dodn't know its state when it closed. Its really easy to bump my magic mouse and get the book scrolling in the Notepad view (which is sometimes the only way I can get all the text on the page to view properly at a decent size but I also find this in most ereader applications) not be able to get it to stop. The Bookmarks manager can get annoying because you have to click on the icon to dismiss it rather than it dismissing by clicking outside of it. The navigation on the bottom left is far from consistent some icons will dismiss the menu they bring up such as the book marks menu but the Settings and Search . There is no way to Jump to a chapter by clicking on it in the Table of Contents and navigating to the page you want is a pain. There is also no quick clickback to the Main Menu.

Version Maturity Misleading

While this eBook reader looks professional, it lacking some key features and it is evident that there are still bugs that need to be fixed. I have found it difficult to find a good desktop app for the mac that will organize and maintain a library of eBooks, and this app falls short I'm afraid. Bugs like not remembering bookshelf window location, sizing, removing books with delete key does not remove them are really annoying. The reader itself is gorgeous and has a profressional Mac app look and feel but again, changing display settings don't always seem to stick, some do some don't. So you pay ten bucks for 3.0, which for third major release, is misleading for an app that is expected to be quite mature. The menu's organization could take note of how iTunes, and most Apple apps do it, and include better navigation and more complete menu so that keyboard shortcuts for every function, given the current context, are visible and usable. Looks good but wait for newer version(s) if hesitant to spend and deal with application shortcomings and feature incompleteness.
