Beautiful scenery, interesting graphics, engaging-enough story line, beefy amount of content/things to do, very good auto-save, some mini-games/puzzles unreasonably difficult (but, there's the option to skip, after a short while), hints were mostly helpful (especially when coming back to the game after an extended break).
BIGGEST PROBLEM: NAVIGATION!!! Even on a larger 5s screen, some movements between rooms were frustratingly too easy (ie, "no, I didn't want to go to X, I just wanted to explore that corner of the scene"); or, unnecessarily too hard to tap (ie, "why won't it select this very specific item??"). This was a problem throughout the game. I've played others in this genre that do not have these challenges. Make transitions between scenes more specific (tap an arrow vs an area), and make item taps a bit more forgiving (so I don't have to tap a dozen times in the same space to get it right). This will contribute greatly to the otherwise very good gaming experience.
If you are looking for something VERY difficult even at the casual level, this is it. I could not figure out a good half of the minigames from the instructions given, got stuck a dozen times, and most hints told me nothing. I hate "engine" and "circuit" minigames almost as much as those ones where if you move one thing, two others move in the opposite direction. To find hidden objects in a tropical setting on an iPhone is no fun at all. I have decided never to pay for another HOG without a teleporting map. This one took AGES to get around in. It was much too short for the price but I was thankful when it was over. While I'm on a roll I also hate interactive hidden objects where three things interact but it takes five minutes to figure out PRECISELY, down to the pixel, where to drop thing 2 on thing 1 and then thing 3 on combined thing 1&2. as in you need "a slice of buttered bread" and it takes 10 tries to drop knife on bread and another 10 to drop butter on slice. This tries my patience to the point that I itch to delete the whole thing, three bucks or no three bucks.
Beautiful game. Puzzles were great but at times difficult to understand directions (not very clear) resulting in my stumbling through rather than grasping the gist. The kid's voice is beyond annoying, and the cut scenes were dry, but gave some insight. Had some trouble navigating current sight- a slight tap in what one would expect to be a normal search area would result in moving to another location. The major problem I found though is the game is WAY to short and teased me with to many unanswered story lines. Hope you can fix this issues for the second installment!
