I had brain cancer and this helped

Hello Everyone,

I had brain cancer in 1991. To be more specific, I had an astrocytoma with multiple lesions. following the resection of my left amygdala-hippocampus and the medial portion of my left temporal lobe, I was left with numerous outstanding deficits. after getting to the point of contemplating suicide due to the extraordinary level of social, academic and professional dysfunction in my life, in 2006 I set my mind in finding a solution. after finding Dr. Michael Merzenich and Brain HQ, and setting aside an hour a day of training I noticed extraordinary benefits. I was able to interact socially without the outstanding level of disconnect seeping into my conversations. I was also diagnosed with a vestibular impairment, which was partially responsible for my having scoliosis. As a result of brain HQ and its role in correcting the damage to the complex interlacing vestibular architecture of the brain, coupled with the practice of Yoga- meditation, I have grown an outstanding inch in a half throughout the past 3 years. if you have had any form of brain trauma I can't help but recommend these exercises. Even if you haven't, I honestly still cannot help but recommend these exercises. They are a doorway to peace of mind that once you enter you'll never want to leave home without it.

Give it some time

They could probably give better explanations for many of the activities, but you can just learn by doing. It's not like it punishes you for bad rounds, and you usually want to do it a few times anyway.

I first signed up for my wife, who is a brain injury survivor. The injury is severe, and having been stumped for progress for several months we were delighted to see her take some steps forward after using this (at that time the PC version) program. The specific functions she was targeting were the ones that got better; you can't buy confidence or a sense that you are doing something to help yourself. She has been using for about 6 months now, health allowing, and we are both happy for that.

These exercises really can help sharpen skills and improve cognitive deficits (me too--I'm getting older), but in order to do that they have to become frustrating at some point. No one actually enjoys being frustrated, but if you give it a couple of weeks of 30-60 minutes per day, you probably will enjoy being able to notice results in everyday life.

The people behind this product don't call it a panacea, just one piece of a long-term puzzle. I think it's a really good piece and I'm glad we found it and stuck with it.

We have switched to the iPad version from PC, and generally prefer it. There are some exercises which seem to work better with a keyboard, maybe 10-20% of them, imo.

Thank you Dr. Mahncke! I'm in the process of beginning a new position in the area of Intellectual Property law with a focus on the industry areas of Life Sciences, Biotechnology, and Chemical Engineering, and already BrainHQ has shown to be an "outstanding" tool. BrainHQ will undoubtedly be an "awesome" and most "rewarding" asset in my professional and everyday life!
